  20. Thank you for your recent download of Genesis Version 1. I appreciate any
  21. comments you might have about the program even if you decide not to purchase
  22. it. I would also be interested in knowing from which bulletin board you
  23. downloaded the program.

  25. Genesis program history:
  26.  I have long been a genealogy bug or Nut! With my computer background I
  27.  wanted to make a contribution to this area and this is it. I have authored
  28.  or co-authored 3 books on Family histories. I am currently working on #4.
  29.  
  30.  The program is written in Clarion, a new 4th generation language. I would
  31.  recommend it highly to anyone serious about programming. Believe me there
  32.  "is" something better than Dbase!
  33.  
  34.  This program is basically a database program that records information on
  35.  births, marriages, and deaths. You will find most of the options in the
  36.  death or obituary module. I use it to record obituaries from newspapers.
  37.  It also has a "BIO" module for recording biographical information with a
  38.  memo field of 900 character length. There are several help screens in the
  39.  program (Use F1 key) but not many. That is because you should not need any
  40.  help! All the work has gone into making this program easy to use. You will
  41.  need to learn only about 6 keys or concepts - thats it. Read the Main-Menu
  42.  help several times - then "Go For IT".
  43.  
  44.       In developing and upgrading this product I have tried to remain aware of
  45. whats on the market. Most similiar products are more expensive and probably do
  46. less! The future looks bright for Genesis. I can also make changes on a one-
  47. to-one basis for a small fee. Future releases will probably be about 1 per
  48. year. Because of the rise of Multi-Media, one possible addition will be
  49. pictures of individuals.

  59. Genesis Computer requirements:
  60.  
  61. o     An IBM PC, XT, AT, PS/2 or 100% compatible
  62. o     Dos 2.0 or higher
  63. o     At least 512 KB of memory (640 recommended)
  64. o     One floppy disk drive or hard disk (hard disk recommended)
  65. o     A monochrome or color monitor
  66. o     A printer (assuming you want to print reports).
  67.       reports have been tested on an Epson printer.

  69. o     The CONFIG.SYS files for your computer should be set = 20 or higher
  70.       i.e.  FILES=20
  71.       
  72. Directions:
  73.  
  74.     Copy all the files into a seperate sub-directory.
  75.     To start the program type   GENESIS  (The file name is Genesis.bat)
  76.     The first time you start the program the indexes will be built. It may
  77.     take a minute depending on the speed of your computer. After that the
  78.     program will start very quickly (especially from a hard disk). Initially
  79.     the program will fit on a floppy, but if you add much data a hard disk is
  80.     best.
