README.FP for FOOTPRINTS IN HISTORY (Version 2.1)
-------------------------------------------------
1. We added additional data to the FOOTPRINTS Database and
modified the FOOTPRINTS program to handle the larger database
size. We made no other changes to the FOOTPRINTS program.
NOTE: If you're running on a 256k machine, please refer to
page 3-4 on steps you may need to take to conserve RAM memory.
A RECAP OF OTHER FEATURES NOT COVERED IN THE USER GUIDE
-------------------------------------------------------
2. FOOTPRINTS IN HISTORY now comes with the Summary Report
automatically turned off - as many of you have requested. This
new setting not only shortens the time required to print a
Timeline or SnapShot, but also reduces your paper costs.
To turn the Summary Report on, log on to the drive containing
your Database Disk or put the Database Disk in your A Drive.
Then just key in the word SWITCH at the DOS prompt and press
the ENTER key. SWITCH is a little utility program on your
FOOTPRINTS Database disk that lets you turn the Summary Report
on or off. It switches whatever the current setting is for
printing the Summary Reports (i.e., if the Summary Report Switch
is set to on, SWITCH turns it off, if the Report Switch is set
to off, SWITCH turns it on).
SOME COMMENTS ABOUT PRINTERS (All Versions)
3. If you have an EPSON or compatible printer, try the Proprinter
Print Option first. If you get funny characters for the borders
instead of lines, switch to the Other Print Option (by pressing F8
from the Main Menu). Selecting Other will allow you to print a
Timeline or SnapShot report using asterisks for the borders
instead of lines.
4. If you have one of the old HP LaserJet printers that doesn't
support downloadable soft fonts, you will not be able to use the
font we've included on the Program Disk. You will still be able
to use this printer, but will have to load one of your cartridge
fonts that supports the IBM graphics characters to get a nice
looking border (e.g. the PRESENTATION 1 cartridge, #92286R, is one
to try if you have it).
You will be able to use the downloadable soft font on the newer HP
Laser printers (and compatibles) such as the LaserJet+ or the
LaserJet Series II. For more information on downloading this
font, refer to Chapter 6 in your User's Guide, the Changing The
Printer Type Section.
THE END OF README.FP - NOW GO HAVE SOME FUN WITH FOOTPRINTS!
