  1.                      DOME - Development of Mental Energy (tm)
  2.                              PRELIMINARY INFORMATION

  5.      Project  DOME  serves  a  twofold  purpose,  one of which is to provide
  6.      interested  individuals  with  general  information  on  the subject of
  7.      parapsychology.  The  second,  and  the  focus  of  this program, known
  8.      simply  as  "DOME", is to enable anyone to utilize the ideas behind ESP
  9.      testing  in a specially designed computer environment. This will result
  10.      in,  by  way  of evaluation, a measure of how effective one is at using
  11.      his/her extrasensory perception, or ESP.
  12.     
  13.      Please  read  the  following  information  before using the program. It
  14.      will  give  you  a  good  idea of what is contained in the distribution
  15.      package,  inform  you  how  to  make copies for others, and provide you
  16.      with   registration   information.   At   the  end,  you  will  find  a
  17.      questionnaire  dealing  with  personal  experiences  or feelings on the
  18.      subjects of parapsychology and UFO's.
  19.     
  20.      The  only  requirement to run DOME is DOS 2.1 or above. A color monitor
  21.      is  highly recommended. DOME consists of the following 5 files, briefly
  22.      described, which are necessary for proper operation of the program:

  24.                DOME.EXE - The program itself
  25.                DOME.DAT - Data file to save scores, settings, etc.
  26.                DOME.RES - Reserve initialized (unused) copy of DOME.DAT
  27.                DOME.TXT - Program documentation, accessible on-line
  28.                DOME.PRE - What you are reading now

  30.      All  five  files  must  be  present  in any hard disk directory or on a
  31.      diskette  where  you intend to run DOME. Therefore, when making copies,
  32.      always    include    all    files   in   the   process.   (Ex:   Typing
  33.      COPY C:\ESP\DOME.* A:/V  at the DOS prompt would copy all program files
  34.      (DOME.*)  from  the  disk directory C:\ESP to the diskette in drive A:.
  35.      Typing  COPY A:DOME.* C:\ESP/V would do the reverse if you were copying
  36.      the program from drive A: to the a directory called C:\ESP.)

  38.      One  feature  of  DOME  is  to  provide a means of gauging a user's ESP
  39.      performance  by  way  of a personal mail-in evaluation, to be conducted
  40.      on  the  scores  saved  by  the  program.  As such, these scores should
  41.      belong  exclusively to a single user. It is, therefore, of considerable
  42.      necessity  for  the  user  to  start  off  with  an empty (initialized)
  43.      DOME.DAT  file  (one  which contains no previous scores saved earlier).
  44.      To  check  this,  you  must view the scores within the program. (Select
  45.      Scores  then  View  on the program menu.) If no scores show in the high
  46.      score  window,  then  the file is empty and ready to accept scores. If,
  47.      on  the  other hand, scores are present, the file DOME.DAT then must be
  48.      emptied - replaced,  actually - by overwriting it with the reserve copy
  49.      provided.  To do this, type COPY DOME.RES DOME.DAT/V at the DOS prompt.
  50.      This  will  not  only produce a new initialized DOME.DAT file, but will
  51.      leave  the  reserve  copy  intact.  (Do  not simply rename the DOME.RES
  52.      file;  use the Copy command as indicated, because the reserve file will
  53.      be  required  whenever you may want to start over anew.)

  56.      If  several users would like to save their scores on a single computer,
  57.      then  it  will  be  necessary to have all five program files in each of
  58.      separate  directories  on  a  hard  drive, one directory per user. On a
  59.      floppy  drive,  each  user  could  have their own diskette (or separate
  60.      directories on a single diskette).

  62.      The  program  is  very easy to run; simply start by typing DOME <Enter>
  63.      at the DOS prompt. After being met  by  the  intro  screens,  you  will
  64.      be in the program environment. Press "I" for Info  on the program  menu
  65.      and then "F1" to display the User  Guide, which you  can also  print by
  66.      typing TYPE DOME.TXT >LPT1 at the DOS prompt.

  68.      On  the  following  pages you will find a copy of the registration form
  69.      and  an  optional  parapsychology questionnaire which you may choose to
  70.      mail  at the same time. The two may be printed out together within DOME
  71.      by  choosing  Info  on  the  menu  and  then  Registration  (F3).  When
  72.      answering  the  questionnaire,  please be as straightforward and honest
  73.      as  possible,  for  the  information  you  are providing is valuable in
  74.      assessing  what  experiences  people  are  or  are not having regarding
  75.      these  kinds  of phenomena and the how the public generally feels about
  76.      them.  Attach  as much additional paper as you need to fully answer the
  77.      questions.  If  you  want  to provide comments or details regarding any
  78.      other  matter  or personal experience having to do with parapsychology,
  79.      then you are encouraged to do so.

  84.      When  you  are ready to send us your scores, just send us your name and
  85.      address, and a disk containing a copy of the DOME.DAT file (with scores
  86.      saved  therein)  and  we will print out what we need to do the rest.
