  1. WHAT this PROGRAM CAN DO:
  2.  
  3.           The purpose of this program is to allow a much
  4.      more convenient method to find differences and make
  5.      changes for the data files created by the Personal
  6.      Ancestral File program (PAF).  PAF is a copyrighted
  7.      program of The Corporation of the President of The
  8.      Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  I will
  9.      refer to this program as PAF from this point on.

  11.           This program allows the computer to do much of the
  12.      work of comparing two different Genealogical data
  13.      bases.  The amount of information compared within both
  14.      data bases is determined by the operator.  The choices
  15.      are; 1. Direct line, Ancestors only, 2. All lines,
  16.      Ancestors & Decedents except multiple marriages.  If
  17.      the individual, marriage or notes are different the
  18.      differences are [ displayed on the screen (optional see
  19.      CFR.DEF file) ] and printed in a compare log file or to
  20.      a printer.

  22.           To compare multiple marriages rerun the program
  23.      using the nonancestral spouse as the first individual.

  45.      TRY NOT TO DO THIS!!! use Ctrl-Break or turn
  46.           the power off with in the program this
  47.           may results in loss of your data files.
  48.           The program will not process a Ctrl-
  49.           Break until the program is at a safe
  50.           point.

  68.      I DO Not take responsibility for any data LOSS caused
  69.         by the use of this program!  I have made a sincere
  70.         effort to eliminate these type of error.  But the
  71.         possibility of errors does exist.

  73. INTRODUCTION:

  75.           My brother and I decided to provide our brothers
  76.      and sisters with all the genealogical information we
  77.      have assembled for our family.  We became very
  78.      frustrated trying to combine our two data bases and
  79.      keep them up dated as well as trying to keep the rest
  80.      of the family updated with all the changes.  With the
  81.      current PAF software it became necessary to reprint
  82.      almost all the information and redistribute it to the
  83.      family.  This program allows us to only reprint the
  84.      pages that have information that is changed and not
  85.      just because one of the RIN's or MRIN's numbers have
  86.      changed.

  88. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
  89.  
  90.      * IBM PC or IBM PC Compatible computer 384K
  91.           memory.
  92.  
  93.      * One or two disk drives.
  94.  
  95.      * Preferred configuration;  One disk drive and a
  96.           Hard-disk.
  97.  
  98. MEMORY:
  99.      The amount of memory your computer has will determine
  100.      the size of data base you can work with.  Memory size
  101.      limits are discussed in CFR.DEF section.  The help file
  102.      can be examined by typing "TYPE CFR.HLP" or printed by
  103.      "COPY CFR.HLP LPT1"  This file tell you what to do if
  104.      out of memory errors are encountered.

  108. GETTING STARTING:
  109.   2 Drive system
  110.  
  111.      A. Place disk with CFR.EXE in drive A:.  Must be the
  112.         default drive.
  113.  
  114.      B. Type CFR <Enter> The PROGRAM DEFAULT screen should
  115.         appear.
  116.  
  117.      C. Remove CFR disk and replace with SOURCE #1 data disk
  118.         insert SOURCE #2 data disk into drive B:.

  120.         NOTE: An error will occur if F1 is pressed after the
  121.

  133.         disks are swapped. To correct this problem copy the
  134.         CFR.HLP file on to data #1 disk.
  135.  
  136.      D. Pressing; F1 will display the help file.  F3 Stop
  137.         program.  F5 display progress of the program.

  140.   1 Drive system with Hard-drive

  142.      A. Copy CFR.EXE, CFR.DEF, and CFR.HLP to hard drive and
  143.         change default drive to hard-drive.

  145.      B. Both the SOURCE #1 PAF data files and SOURCE #2 PAF
  146.         data files should be on hard-disk or one in Drive A:
  147.         Note use different Sub-Directories if on same drive
  148.         or data files compare against it's self.

  150.      C. Type CFR <Enter> The PROGRAM DEFAULT screen should
  151.         appear.

  153.      D. Pressing; F1 will display the help file.  F3 Stop
  154.         program.  F5 display progress of the program.
