  19.             in your driveway, the perfect spouse, wonderful
  20.             children, world peace and intergalactic harmony.

  23.     Requirements
  24.     ------------

  26.         Any PC or compatible with a word processing or page
  27.     layout program and a spreadsheet program.  These files are
  28.     designed for use by those with a basic (not advanced)
  29.     knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets.
  30.     
  31.         The text files are in Microsoft Works 2.0 (*.WPS).  The
  32.     spreadsheet files are in Microsoft Works v2.0 (*.WKS).  Any
  33.     later versions and also many other competitive programs such as
  34.     WordStar, Word, or Quattro Pro should be able to import these
  35.     files.
  36.     
  37.         I am partial to laser printers, but it is not a
  38.     requirement UNLESS you are planning to present this plan to
  39.     venture capitalists or other sophisticated investors.
  40.     
  41.         A version for WordPerfect 5.1 and Lotus 1-2-3 is
  42.     also available.  It should be titled BIZPLN21.ZIP.
  43.         
  44.         A Macintosh version is also available.  It is
  45.     located on CompuServe, Ziffnet, GEnie, Delphi, America
  46.     OnLine, BMUG, and BCS-Mac, as well as several shareware
  47.     vendors.

  50.     Purpose:
  51.     
  52.         Every business needs to have a plan in order to track
  53.     its progress.  There is no business too small, too large,
  54.     too complex or too simple to avoid having a business plan.
  55.     I found that many businessmen assume that the usefulness
  56.     of their business plan is over once the business is
  57.     up and running.  I have been successful using a business
  58.     plan not only to start a business, but as an important
  59.     management tool in an ongoing business.
  60.     
  61.         This program is designed for use by any size (small,
  62.     medium or large) or type (product or service) of business.
  63.     It also includes all the necessary information which most
  64.     lenders or investors are seeking.
  65.     
  66.         I didn't write this program in an ivory tower some
  67.     place, but out of my own business experience.  For seven
  68.     years, I imported cuckoo clocks from the Black Forest of
  69.     Germany, so this is definetly a "cuckoo" program!  I have
  70.     been involved in many other business ventures.  I'd be lying
  71.     if I said I made money with all of them.  But I can
  72.     truthfully say that all were successful, mainly because I
  73.     followed a plan and stuck to it.

  75.         BUSINESS PLAN MASTER supplies you with complete template
  76.     files.  I give you professional formats (footnootes, tables
  77.     of contents,some simple graphics), some excellent sample
  78.     text and several spreadsheet files for you to use.  Alone
  79.     these could save you many hundreds of hours of work.
  80.     Because of the wide diversity of businesses and business
  81.     ideas, I have tried to make these files as universal as
  82.     possible.  Over time, you will likely incorporate your own
  83.     language into the text and make modifications to the
  84.     worksheets.

  87.     one.  It happens to all of us!

  95.         If you want to get started quickly, just read these few
  96.     lines:

  98.         FIRST, take a look at what is here.
  99.     
  100.         Open the spreadsheets in your spreadsheet program.  The
  101.     best file to look at first is BPMPROF.* (Proforma Financial
  102.     Statements).  I highly recommend that you do your
  103.     spreadsheet work first.  Make sure your business idea is
  104.     going to be financially worthwhile before trying to
  105.     write the text portion.
  106.     
  107.         Get into your word processing program.
  108.     
  109.         Open the BUSINESS PLAN MASTER file, BIZPLN21.WPS.
  110.     This is the main BUSINESS PLAN MASTER file which will
  111.     contain the text you will use.
  112.     
  113.         To access the BIZPLN21.WPS file from MS Works, use "File
  114.     Open" and then look for it in the directory you placed it
  115.     in.
  116.     
  117.         If you are now hopelessly lost, take a look at the
  118.     User's Guide.  By registering at the *PROFESSIONAL* level, I
  119.     send you a printed User's Guide along with other valuable
  120.     items.

  129.     spreadsheet files are in MS Works (*.WKS) format.  These files
  130.     can be opened with higher versions.  Most other spreadsheet
  131.     programs can import the Works files.

  203.         Shareware describes a method of distributing copyrighted
  204.     software in which a user is allowed to fully evaluate the
  205.     software before purchasing it.  After an evaluation period,
  206.     the user is required to register the product if he decides
  207.     to keep using it.

  209.         Shareware distribution addresses all of the legitimate
  210.     complaints that users have with commercial software
  211.     distribution.

  213.       o Shareware allows a user to fully evaluate a product,
  214.         free of charge, in his or her home or business, *before*
  215.         deciding to buy it.

  217.       o Shareware programs can circulate freely on Bulletin
  218.         Boards, through Shareware disk distributors, or through
  219.         user groups.

  221.       o Because Shareware distribution reduces the need to
  222.         advertise, Shareware is less expensive than commercial
  223.         software.

  225.       o Shareware authors can often be more responsive to users'
  226.         requests for help or bug fixes than large software

  230.         copy-protected.

  233.         In short, Shareware is a user's dream come true.  Users
  234.     show their appreciation to developers for this extremely
  235.     flexible distribution scheme by registering their software.
  236.     Without user registrations Shareware software would
  237.     gradually disappear.  It is not sufficient to simply let the
  238.     "other guy" pay the registration.  You are the other guy's
  239.     "other guy".

  245.         Shareware is not "free" software.  Shareware is not
  246.     Public Domain software.  The fee that you may have paid to
  247.     receive a Shareware program does not mean that the software
  248.     has been paid for.  This money was paid to a Shareware disk
  249.     vendor, User Group, Bulletin Board Service or retailer to
  250.     cover their cost of getting the program to you.  Shareware
  251.     software is paid for by registering your copy with the
  252.     author.

  261.         BUSINESS PLAN MASTER has been under development for over
  262.     four years.  During that period it has been in constant use
  263.     by its author.  BUSINESS PLAN MASTER was originally
  264.     developed for the IBM PC.  It was later developed to run on
  265.     Apple Macintosh computers.  The development now is done
  266.     concurrently - wherever I feel like working on a particular
  267.     day!

  302.     import venture with Germany and that well-known German
  303.     perfectionism has rubbed off on me!  I have already spent
