HISTORY
vs 1.00 - The original version of The Computerized Diary.
vs 1.01 - Enhanced the general operation of the program, correcting
minor problems with the menu and allowed individual files
so more than one user could have a file. Added the hidden
attribute to the users file.
vs 1.02 - Revised the user file(s) since the hidden file attribute
command (CHMOD) is only recognized by DOS 3.2. This error
caused "illegal function call in module DIARY at address
0DC5:12BB" to be displayed when the program ended.
vs 1.03 - Enhanced menu by adding clock. Revived embedded character
in file name. Added routine to escape from view screen by
pressing <ESC> key rather than forcing the user to read
all entries first. Replaced the end statement for each
entry with a dashed line (--) the width of the screen for
better separation in the printed document). (SEE NOTE IN
USAGE).
The Computerized Diary USERS GUIDE
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
- IBM or compatible computer with 256K
- Any type monitor
- MS-DOS 3.0 (minimum) or any other comparable DOS operating system
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- The Computerized Diary will establish a file for the contents of the
diary based on the name you give at the prompt 'Enter Your Private
Diary Name: '. This file will be located in the same directory as
the program itself. Additionally, the file name has an embedded
character hidden in it as a level of protection. More than one
person may use the program by each using their own diary name.
FILE VALIDATION
File Name: DIARY103.EXE File Name: DIARY.DOC
SIZE: 56,724 SIZE: 8,449
DATE: 2-4-1991 DATE: 2-04-1991
File Authentication:
CHECK METHOD 1 - 8A08
CHECK METHOD 2 - 0CEB
USAGE
The program is menu driven thru use of keyboard number keys, giving the
user four main choices from the bar menu:
- Make an entry
- View the diary
- Print the diary
- Quit
Pressing the appropriate menu item number activates the choice immedi-
ately. There is NO NEED to press the <RETURN> or <ENTER> key. The
<ESC> key will return you to the main menu from anywhere EXCEPT the
'Make an entry' screen.
Make an entry - activates the editor screen. You may type in as much
as you like. Each time the editor is activated, a date and time entry
are embedded in the text. They are shown on the screen for your con-
venience. Type END when you are through to save your entry and return
to the menu.
View the diary - Prints the diary on the screen, one entry at a time.
You are prompted to press a key to view the next entry, and, when you
have read all entries, you are prompted to press a key to return to
the menu.
Print the diary - first asks if your printer is ready, then prints
the diary in its entirety, including the embedded date and time
entries.
Quit - Ends the program and returns to the operating environment,
clearing any memory used by the program.
NOTE:
Diary files saved by previous versions of THE COMPUTERIZED DIARY will
require editing with an ASCII text editor (a word processing program
that is capable of saving a file in ASCII mode will work). EDLIN
will work fine. The word 'end' or 'END' on a line by itself must be
changed to 80 dashes (-) for this version to properly read individual
entries. If this isn't done, the program will still read all entries,
but will scroll through them without stopping after each one.
