  3. Welcome to Start Manager 7.1. This version is done in high resolution 
  4. graphics. I added mouse and color configuration capabilities to this 
  5. version. Other changes include overall performance enhancements. I hope 
  6. you enjoy the additions.

  8.                                 TO START
  9. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
  10. Run HPIM.EXE. Thats it. The program will create all of the associated data
  11. files.

  14.       If you are already a registered user, then  just type in your 
  15.       REGISTRATION CODE. Your in business. Thank you for your support.

  18. If you are not a registered user, please register. This program is SHAREWARE.
  19. It is the end result of many, many hours of work. This is a quality program.

  32.                             ABOUT START MANAGER
  33. ============================================================================
  34.  Start Manager 7.1 contains:

  36.                       * A Calendar with notes
  37.                       * A Reminder system
  38.                       * A Phonebook with dialer 
  39.                       * A Journal database
  40.                       * A TODO list
  41.                       * A Calculator
  42.                       * An In General Note
  43.                       * Information about your system resources

  45. You can configure the program to show appointments and reminders when
  46. you power up Start Manager. You can leave a note to yourself. You can
  47. track those personal and business phone numbers. You can keep a 
  48. journal of your daily activities. This program is easy to use and
  49. can simplify your affairs.

  51. OPTIONS
  52. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  53. You can configure the program to display information in ways that suit your
  54. needs. If the reminder is turned on, it will check the date and display it.
  55. If the calendar is turned on, it checks the computers date and the calendars
  56. database of notes. If it finds a match, it displays the calendar. Also
  57. included is a general note. If the program detects a note, it will display
  58. it. These options allow you to better deal with your time.
  59.  
  60. SETUP
  61. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  62. Start Manager creates the data and configuration files when you first
  63. start the program. If you have any problems with the configuration 
  64. of Start Manager, erase HPIM.CFG and run the program again. This will
  65. create a new configuration file.
  66.  
  67. To have the PHONEBOOK dial the phone for you, you must 
  68.  
  69.     1. Have a Hayes compatible modem.
  70.     2. Set the modem Com Port Number ( port 1 or port 2 ).
  71.     3. Set the TONE or PULSE dialing option.
  72.  
  73. Off Mice and Modems
  74. --------------------
  75. If you have a modem (as specified above) you can dial a phone number
  76. from the Phone Book. But you must set the Com Port setting first. If
  77. your modem is on Com 1 or 2 you must tell Start Manager. If you try
  78. to dial out and the Port Setting for the modem is the same as the mouse, 
  79. the program will hang up. I have included an option in the SETUP menu
  80. to override the mouse if problems occur. Simply toggle it OFF.

  82. DISPLAY OPTIONS 
  83. -------------------------
  84. You can select to have the Reminder or Calendar display if a note for 
  85. that date exists.

  87. COLOR SETUP
  88. ----------- 
  89. Select the color number of the color that you want. The number of the 
  90. current color is displayed on the right side of the screen. Note: You
  91. must type in a number for each color when you change the color setup.

  93. You can also use F5 and F6 to change your background patterns. The
  94. selected pattern is automatically saved in the configuration file.

  96. ABOUT YOUR SYSTEM SPEED
  97. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  98. This program was developed on a 386DX running at 25 MHZ and an EGA monitor.
  99. Because it uses high resolution graphics, it needs a fast machine to run
  100. properly. I doubt it will run right on some older PC's. I also developed
  101. this program using a Logitech mouse and hope it works O.K. with other
  102. hardware configurations. Be forewarned. Also I cannot and will not be 
  103. held responsible for any damage resulting from the use of this program. 
  104. A great deal of effort has gone into developing and testing of this product.
  105.  
  106. FUTURE VERSIONS
  107. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  108. I am a one man show and can only write so much code at one time. This 
  109. program is hardly finished. But there comes a time when you just have 
  110. say, "Enough already, release it". The hope is that 1.) The program
  111. will work on other machines ? 2.) People will actually send money to
  112. show appreciation for all the time and effort you have invested in
  113. the product. 3.) You can make enough to make a least $.25 for every 
  114. hour you have invested to produce such a product. 4.) Show your wife
  115. that all those hours spent working were not a total waste of time.
  116.  
  117. Consider the quality of this product. This program is the end result 
  118. of years of programming experience. I need registration fees to continue. 
  119. I want too express my thanks to those of you who have registered this 
  120. product and shown your appreciation for the quality of this product.

  122. VERY IMPORTANT

  124. Will there be a next version ? That depends on you. It cost me time
  125. and money to produce this product. I have come to a point were I 
  126. can no longer spend anymore time on this program. If I get enough 
  127. registrations to justify my time I will continue, if not then this
  128. is it.

  142. Allow 1 to 2 weeks for delivery of your registration code. Because I have
  143. only recieved a few registration fees to date, I only check my P.O. box 
  144. every week or so. I send the registration code the day I get it from my 
  145. P.O. Box.
