║ DeskTop III Disk Help ║
╟────────────────────────────────────────────────────╢
║ The DISK option provides the user with a means to ║
║ easily accomplish all disk related operations. It ║
║ is quite simple to use the menu selections listed. ║
╚════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
The menu options accessed within the Disk listing are
follows:
1) Backup Drive(s)
2) Restore Drive(s)
3) Format
4) Change Drive
5) Check Drive (CHKDSK)
6) Default Drive
7) Disk Copy
8) Set/Remove Volume Label
9) System Reboot
10) Park Drive
11) Directory Listing
The DISK option is accessed by using the mouse or by
pressing the ALT-D key combination to activate the
dropdown menu. To access an individual option, press
the ALT key and the highlighted character of the
selection you wish to make. Alternatively, the mouse
may be used by pressing the LEFT key when the option
needed is highlighted.
After selection of a given option has been made,
simply follow the on-screen prompts to accomplish the
action you have choosen.
The Backup and Restore options use the DOS files of
the same name to accomplish their respective tasks.
You will be presented with six buttons containing the
letters of the available drives to backup. Pressing
the corresponding letter to the drive to be backedup
will start you on your way. Following the prompts will
lead to a successful backup of your drive. The Restore
option is similar to Backup in that the user will be
prompted for the drive containing the backup disks and
will require the you to enter the correct drive letter
(normally A or B drive).
The Format option uses the DOS file of the same name to
perform its task. The FIRST menu option to choose is:
SELECT DRIVE. This is essential since the program will
otherwise not know the drive to format. After select-
ing the drive to format you are required to select the
TYPE of format you wish to perform. The Quick Format
option will only work if your system is using DOS 5.0,
otherwise you will be returned to the menu without the
diskette or drive being formated.
Change Drive requires only that you enter the letter of
the drive you wish to make the default drive.
Check Drive will perform a CHKDSK on the chosen drive.
Default will list the drive which is the "home" drive.
Disk Copy will create a "mirror" image of one disk on a
second disk, giving you an exact copy of the chosen
drive.
Set/Remove Volume Label allows you to change, add, or
remove the label on any given diskette or drive. You
will be shown the current volume label if one exists,
and prompted to either change it or leave the label as
it is. If you desire to change the label, the prompts
will easily walk you through the process.
System Reboot will cause the system to preform a "warm"
reboot as if you had pressed the CTRL-ALT-DEL keys.
Park Drive will prepare the drive for a system shutdown
or for moving to a new location. Always make it a habit
to do this prior to ending a session.
Directory will show a listing of the files in a given
directory. Simply pressing ENTER will show a listing of
the default directory, (the directory you are currently
in).
