INTRODUCTION
Keeping track of transactions between you and your customers can be a
tedious chore. Storing the information accumulated over the years is also a
task not easily accomplished. Now, with the help of The Customer Manager,
the workload can be lightened. The Customer Manager was professionally
designed to bring a powerful, customized data base to the small business
environment, and yet be simple enough for the average person to operate it
with minimal computer experience.

INSTALLING TO HARD DRIVE
To Install The Customer Manager on your system's Hard Drive you must first
make the directory that the program will go in, this is done by first going
to your Root Directory in your hard drive typing CD\ <ENTER>, and then typing
MD MANAGER <ENTER>.
Next type CD\MANAGER <ENTER>. This will move you to the directory that the
program will be copied into. Now go to the floppy drive containing the
master diskette of The Customer Manager, This is done by typing the letter of
the drive and placing a colon (:) behind. A: <ENTER> puts you into the "A"
drive on your system.
Now you need to copy all of the files on the floppy disk to the Hard Drive,
type COPY *.* C:\MANAGER <ENTER>.
When you want to start the program simply type the two commands below...
CD\MANAGER <ENTER>
MANAGER <ENTER>
USING THE CUSTOMER MANAGER FROM FLOPPY DRIVE
To run The Customer Manager from a floppy disk all you have to do is insert
it into the current active drive and Type:
MANAGER <ENTER>
THE MAIN MENU
The MAIN MENU is your "control center" it allows you to make choices
which will help better manipulate the data on your customers. Notice that
"CREATE A NEW CUSTOMER FILE" is highlighted by the Menu Bar. The Menu Bar
indicates which choice will be selected if the ENTER key is pressed. To
select another choice simply press + (PLUS KEY) or - (MINUS KEY). which will
move the Menu Bar up or down, respectfully. When your choice is highlighted
press the ENTER KEY.
SUB-MENUS
Sometimes when making a selection from the MAIN MENU, other menus will
appear. These are called Sub-Menus. Simply read what is displayed and make
the appropriate choice.
NOTE! AT ANY TIME THAT YOU WISH TO EXIT FROM A MENU (OTHER THAN THE MAIN),
SIMPLY PRESS THE "F1" KEY. THIS WILL BRING UP THE MAIN MENU.

CREATING A NEW CUSTOMER FILE:
This function allows you to fabricate an informative file about a
customer who has done business with you. The questions you will be asked
are...
#1 The Name of the Customer ..... Type the Name and press <ENTER>
#2 The Street Address ........... Type the Street address of the
customer and Press <ENTER>
#3 The City, State , and Zip .... Type the City, State , and Zip and
Press <ENTER>
#4 The Phone Number ............. Type the customer's phone number and
Press <ENTER>
#5 The File name ................ Enter a name for the customer's file to
be saved to disk under. Use that name to call up your file in the
future. A good idea is to use the customer's phone number as the file's
name. When the customer returns and you believe to have served him
before, simply ask for his/her phone number and enter it, if the file is
not found, you will have to follow the steps above.
#6 Enter Drive Name and Path .... Type in the letter of the drive
on which you want the data to be stored. An example to store the data
on your Hard Drive would be... C:\MANAGER <ENTER>
IF you are using a floppy disk an example would be... A:\ <ENTER>
NOTE: Whenever using a floppy drive, enter the path as follows...
Enter the drives letter followed by a colon (:), next type a back
slash (\). IE.
A:\
or
B:\
For more information on Drive Paths, consult your DOS manual.
EDIT OR VIEW A FILE (Main Menu):
This selection allows you viewing, editing or adding to the contents of a
customer file or record. When chosen, a sub-menu will be presented with the
following selections.
#1 Edit Customer Specifics .......... This allows makeing changes to an
existing customer file. With this option you can re-define all
characteristics of a customer file.
#2 Add New Records .................. Used for adding extra records to an
existing file.

#3 Edit Records for a Customer ...... Facilitates editing and updating
current records stored on a disk.
How to Use Option #1
Edit Customer Specifics: First type in the name of a Pre-existing File (one
that you have all ready created) and then press ENTER. Next, type in the Path
to the file for the Hard drive, an example for Hard Disk users would be...
C:\MANAGER <ENTER>
If using The Customer Manager from a floppy disk, type in the
Floppy drive's letter IE.
A:\
B:\
Followed by ENTER .
The information you can edit is Just like the information entered when you
first made your customer file IE .. Name of customer, Address, City, State ,
Zip Code, Phone Number.
TIP: WHEN EDITING, NOTICE THAT OLD CHOICES ARE DISPLAYED FOR YOU. IF YOU
WISH TO KEEP THE OLD CHOICE AND GO ON TO THE NEXT ONE, SIMPLY PRESS THE ENTER
KEY AND ALL PREVIOUS DATA IS KEPT!
How to Use Option #2
Add Records to a Customer: This option allows you to add records to an
existing file. Follow the steps given in option #1 for file names and path
request. Next, add the new record information.
How to Use Option #3
Edit Record for a Customer: This Function displays the information on
records contained on a file. You can choose to edit, delete, or simply view
the contents of a specified file. If you have no records filed on the
customer stated, then this option will not function.
The Sub-Menu with in this option permits selections from 5 different options.
They are...
#1 Edit Record Specifics ..... Type "E" for this function. It allows
editing the displayed record's contents.
#2 Delete .................... Type "D" for this function to remove the
record being displayed.
#3 Next Record ............... Type "N" to move to the next record on file
(moves you forward one file).
#4 Previous Record ........... Type "P" to move to the previous record
(moves you back one record).
#5 Save Changes ............... Type "S" to SAVE all changes you made to the
records of your file. If you don't want to keep the changes, simply press
the "F1" key and the main menu will be brought back on screen with all your
records still intact.

DELETE A CUSTOMER FILE:
When whole files become obsolete and are to be discarded, use this option to
do so. Whole files which you specify will be erased when this option is
chosen, once they are gone, they are gone! So use this option wisely.
PRINT A SINGLE CUSTOMER FILE:
This option lets you print out all the information on a customer, including
all record information. Before selection of this option, you must make sure
your printer is ready. Next type the file name and it's path and the program
does the rest.
VIEW A DISK DIRECTORY:
This function is used to View the names of files in a Directory (in case you
are not sure of a name of a file). Simply type in the path of the directory
you want to look at. Hard drive users may look like the following...
C:\MANAGER <ENTER>
Floppy drive users would either type...
A:\ <ENTER>
or...
B:\ <ENTER>
For a hard copy (a printed version of the directory), press the PRINT SCREEN
button while holding the SHIFT KEY on the Keyboard.
QUIT:
Exits you back to DOS.
