Fire Dispatch must be in a Directory by itself.
It is not within the scope of this program to explain how or what
a directory is so...if you do not know what a directory is,
or do not know how to make a directory, please refer to your DOS manual.
Make a Directory called Dispatch or something similiar and copy
all the files on the disk into your new directory.
Start Fire Dispatch at the DOS prompt using FD or FD/m if you want to use
12 hr. time instead of military time.
Fire Dispatch will create 1 Data File called ...Dispatch.Dat
and 4 Key Files called Phone.idx
Name.idx
Address.idx
Phone.idx
Plus a Delete File called.... DelFile.ndx
and a Cfg. file called.... Setup.cfg
All of these files must be in the same directory as FD.EXE (Fire Dispatch).
You should hardly ever have to bother with Re-Indexing files as this is all taken care of automatically.
If you do the program will delete your key files and then use the Data file
to re-index the Key files. This can take some time on a large data file.
If you use the Re-index selection you will find 4 files in your directory called ....Phone.bak
Name.bak
Address.bak
File.bak
These are files that have been re-named in case of a power failure or other calamity before the re-indexing has finished.
If something should happen you can re-name these files giving them an .idx extension and start again.
To be on the safe side you should make back-ups every day of all the *.idx and *.dat files.
There are two test records included in the unregistered version of Fire Dispatch.
Delete these two records before entering any of your own.
