INSTALLATION / SET UP
The game must be installed to your hard disk with the install program
provided. All required game files are compressed to the file
"ULTROUL.EXE". A listing of all required files can be found in the
text file "PACKLIST.TXT". The compression and extraction routines used
for diskette data is LHA and is copyrighted by Haruyasu Yoshizaki. LHA is
used as per the terms of Mr. Yoshizaki's documentation.
GAME START UP/COMMAND LINE OPTIONS
Type "ROULETTE" to run the program once it is installed on your hard disk.
Two command line switches can be used to alter the game if desired.
/S - Example usage: "ROULETTE /S". This will start the game without
the sound blaster interface. Use this switch if the game locks up
your computer. The problem may be with the sound blaster interface,
this will run the game without the sound blaster voice and sound effects.
/A - Example usage: "ROULETTE /A". This will start the game so that it
runs without auxillary animation enabled. This may be necessary on
some 386 computers with relatively slow processor speeds. If the roulette
wheel animation is jerky, your computer may not have enough processor
power to handle all animation simultaneously. If this is the case, you
should use the "/A" command line switch when running this program. NOTE:
with the "/A" command line switch activated, the roulette wheel video will
not appear in the small TV on the upper right of your screen. This switch
applies only to the registered version of the program since the shareware
version is shipped without the auxillary graphics files.
ADDITIONAL GRAPHICS
1. The registered version of this game contains additional graphics not
available in the shareware version. Your computer must have EXPANDED
memory allocated before these additional graphics can be used. The
added graphics consists of a delayed motion video playback of a
magnified view of the roulette roulette wheel as it spins. This
magnified view shows a detailed portion of the numbers on the wheel and
provides an accurate representation of the the wheel and it's numbers.
The small wheel shown on the screen next to the dealer provides a visual
simulation of each spin, but may not always represent the actual
relationship of container colors to ball placement as can be seen in
the magnified view of the wheel. This view is seen in the small TV
at the top right of the screen.
2. You must have at least a 386 processor an a minimum of 2 mega bytes
of memory to use these graphics. The first time you run Ultimate
Roulette, you will receive a message if the game CANNOT detect EXPANDED
memory. If you do not receive the no EXPANDED memory detected message,
your computer is set up to use the additional graphics and no
system modifications are necessary. If you do receive this message,
the game will function, but without the additional graphics until you
modify your config.sys file to allow your extended memory to be allocated
as expanded memory when needed. NOTE: This message will only appear
the the FIRST time you run the registered version of this game.
3. You can use an ASCII editor to modify your config.sys file if necessary.
EDIT supplied with DOS 5 or 6 is a good choice for this purpose. You
need to locate your config.sys file. With your editor, find the line
that contains "EMM386.EXE". EMM386.EXE may have a switch after it that
reads "NOEMS". If this is the case, change "EMM386.EXE NOEMS" to read
"EMM386.EXE RAM". The RAM switch allows your computer to allocate
expanded memory as necessary from your extra RAM. Once this change
has been made, reboot your computer and the game should now display
the additional graphics.
SOUND BLASTER SUPPORT
The registered version of this game supports sound blaster voice and
sound effects if the optional voice pack for the game is purchased.
Your computer must have a Sound Blaster or 100% compatible system for
the sounds to fuction. The sounds supplied with the sound pack are
digitized speech for the words seen in the dealer's talk balloons,
and crowd background noises. When the ball falls, the ball bouncing
sound effects are also provided. NOTE: Sound blaster voice files
ARE NOT available for the talk balloons occasionally seen for
computer generated players.
GAME PLAY
1. An initial credits screen shows with information that scrolls by, this
can be bypassed by pushing any key or mouse button while the credits are
rolling.
2. The game can be played by yourself or with up to 4 other "COMPUTER
GENERATED" players, just follow the prompts. You can see these other
player's thoughts or talk balloons if selected through the EFFECTS menu.
3. The game is disigned to use a mouse. The keyboard will be
used if no mouse is present. If the keyboard is being used, the
arrow keys are used to place the hand pointer and ENTER is used
to select an item. The spe
