  28. The Setup Program
  29.  
  30. Setup Sound Card -- Automatic
  31. 1.  Select Setup Sound Card - Automatic   from the menu.
  32. 2.  A warning will appear.  Read it, and then choose Continue With 
  33.     Automatic Setup.  (If you do not wish to continue, choose Return to 
  34.     Main Menu and choose Setup Sound Card - Manual.  See instructions 
  35.     below.)
  36. 3.  The Setup Program will try to automatically detect your sound card setup.
  37.     If it is successful, choose Accept Current Values and Proceed to test.
  38. 4.  If you hear digital sound, choose Return to Main Menu.  If you do not, 
  39.     choose Test Digital Sound Again or Return to Main Menu and choose 
  40.     Setup Sound Card - Manual.

  42. Setup Sound Card -- Manual
  43. 1.  Select Setup Sound Card -Manual from the menu.
  44. 2.  Choose Change Digital Sound.
  45. 3.  Choose your digital sound card from the list and press <ENTER>
  46. 4.  If you choose Continue with Confirmation, Setup will try to detect 
  47.     your sound card settings.  If confirmation fails, select the sound 
  48.     card again and choose Skip Confirmation.   If the settings are 
  49.     incorrect, you may change the settings by selecting the menu options. 
  50. 5.  Choose Test Digital Sound.  If you hear sound, your setup is correct.  
  51.     If you do not, you must select another card or enter different 
  52.     setup values.
  53. 6.  Choose Return to Main Menu.
  54.  
  55. Install UniVBE driver
  56.     Select this option if you intend to run SVGA mode.  The UniVBE 
  57.     driver may increase frame rate in IndyCar Racing II for certain 
  58.     graphics cards.  UniVBE is not compatible with all graphics card.  
  59.     If UniVBE is not successfully installed or the game locks Uninstall 
  60.     the UniVBE driver.
  61.  
  62. Uninstall UniVBE driver
  63.     Select this option to uninstall the UniVBE driver.  If UniVBE is 
  64.     not successfully installed or the game locks when using UniVBE, 
  65.     you should select this option.  It is not necessary to use UniVBE 
  66.     to run SVGA mode.
  67.  
  68. Make a Bootable Floppy
  69.     Choose Make a Bootable Floppy if you have any difficulties running 
  70.     IndyCar Racing II.  Follow directions on screen to create the 
  71.     bootable floppy.  If you use a bootable floppy to run the game, 
  72.     we highly recommend that you select Complete Installation when 
  73.     installing the game.
  74. 1.  Insert a blank diskette in drive A: (You may not use drive B:).
  75. 2.  Choose Make a Bootable Floppy from the menu and press <ENTER>.
  76. 3.  Follow the on-screen prompts.
  77. 4.  To use the Bootable Floppy disk, you must restart the computer 
  78.     with the disk in the A: drive.
  79.  
  80. View Readme File
  81.     Choose View README File to read important update information.
  82. Exit To DOS
  83.     Choose Exit to DOS to leave the Setup program.
  84. Starting IndyCar Racing II DEMO
  85. 1.  Insert the IndyCar Racing II CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.         
  86.     (Not necessary if you chose the Complete Installation option.)
  87. 2.  From your hard drive, type CD\ICR2DEMO <ENTER> (If you did not accept 
  88.     the default directory when installing, substitute the name of the 
  89.     directory you specified.)
  90. 3.  Type INDYCAR <ENTER> to start VGA mode        - or -
  91.     Type INDYCAR  -H <ENTER> to start SVGA mode.  Be sure to type the 
  92.     space and the dash before the "H".  You must have a VESA driver 
  93.     loaded to run SVGA. See the Troubleshooting section for details.
  94.  
  95. You may also start the demo with the following switches (just like the
  96. "INDYCAR -H <ENTER>" above.
  97.  
  98. -h (runs IndyCar Racing II in high-resolution SVGA graphics)
  99. -f (Use SoundBlaster FM sound)
  100. -j (Use notebook gameport or Genovation)

  103. How to Setup the Controls
  104.  
  105. From the Main Menu, use the keyboard arrow keys to scroll down to the
  106. OPTIONS menu and press <enter>. 
  107. Choose the CONTROLS menu and press <enter>.
  108.  
  109. Choose CALIBRATE JOYSTICK-1, if you were not asked to do so when
  110. you started the game.  Move the joystick forward, backward, left and 
  111. right, release it, then press <ENTER>.
  112.  
  113. Choose SET CONTROLS and press <enter>.  You will notice a list of
  114. functions that can be assigned to your controller.  Highlight an option 
  115. and press <ENTER>.  Assign the control by moving your joystick, pressing 
  116. a joystick button, or pressing a keyboard key.  The menu will return.
  117. Repeat for all controls.
  118.  
  119. The number of functions that you will be able to assign to the joystick 
  120. is limited to the type of controller you are using.  If you are using a 
  121. standard 2-button joystick then we would suggest that you set one of the 
  122. buttons to ACCELERATION and the other button to BRAKING.  The STEERING 
  123. should be assigned to the LEFT/RIGHT or X-AXIS movement on the joystick.  
  124. For REVERSE we suggest simply pulling the joystick back.
  125.  
  126. Start Racing
  127.  
  128. Once you are in the game and have set up your controls you will most
  129. likely want to start racing.  The demo release contains the SINGLE RACE 
  130. and PRESEASON TESTING modes. You can choose these modes at the main menu.
  131.  
  132. The demo is limited to the ARCADE damage setting and cannot be changed.
  133.  
  134. Spin Recovery: The spin recovery feature is on by default. You can turn
  135. this feature off in the DRIVING AIDS menu.
  136.  
  137. Driving Views:  You can cycle through different views of the car while
  138. driving by pressing the F10 key.
  139.  
  140. Information Boxes : Additional information boxes may be called up by use
  141. of the following function keys:
  142.  
  143. F1     Lap Information - Useful info about position and laps completed.
  144. F2     Standings - up-to-date race standings.
  145. F3     Fuels - Shows current fuel and estimated laps.
  146. F4     Tires - Shows tire temperature.
  147. F5     Tires - This box shows tire pressure and condition.  Space to
  148.        toggle through tires.
  149. F7     Wings - Too much drag at Michigan?  Tell your pit crew to lower
  150.        those wings.
  151. F8     Wheel Stagger - Tell your pit crew how to stagger your tires.
  152. F9     Pit radio - Know what your pit crew is planning at a glance.
  153.  
  154. NOTE: The demo does not allow you to change your settings from the F-key
  155. boxes. This feature is enabled in the full version.
  156.  
  157. Graphics:  Graphics and Textures can be turned on and off by pressing
  158. the 1-9 number keys while driving. These may also be adjusted from the
  159. OPTIONS/GRAPHICS menu.  Turning off graphics will increase your frame 
  160. rate significantly.
  161.  
  162. Pitting:  Pitting is not enabled in the demo.
  163.  
  164. Troubleshooting:
  165.  
  166. If the highlight on the menu scrolls up or down by itself, you will need 
  167. to calibrate your joystick. At the main menu, press the "J" key to turn 
  168. the joystick off.  Then select OPTIONS/CONTROLS/CALIBRATE JOYSTICK #1.  
  169. Follow instructions above for calibrating.
  170.  
  171. AWE 32: If you are using an AWE 32 you may encounter problems with the
  172. autodetect sound installation.  If this should happen, reboot and use
  173. manual setup.
  174.  
  175. Memory Issues: If you have trouble setting up your sound during install,
  176. use the Create Boot Disk option from the setup menu and boot from that
  177. disk. If you encounter problems creating a boot disk from Windows95,
  178. restart in MS-DOS mode and run the setup again.
  179.  
  180. Graphics Problems: If you are having graphics problems, try installing
  181. the UNIVBE driver from the setup menu. Due to differences in video cards
  182. across systems, you may also attain increased graphics performance by
  183. not installing the UNIVBE driver from your system.   
  184.  
  185. To improve frame rate:
  186. 1.  Run in VGA mode.
  187. 2.  Reduce the number of opponents you race against in the 
  188.     OPTIONS/OPPONENTS menu.
  189. 3.  Reduce the number of opponents seen and heard in the OPTIONS/OPPONENTS    
  190.     menu.
  191. 4.  Turn off graphics options in the OPTIONS/GRAPHICS
