  6. Please read it carefully before using the program.

  14. Disclaimer - Agreement

  17. Users of File Viewer must accept this disclaimer of warranty:

  19. "File Viewer is supplied as is. The author disclaims all warranties,
  20. expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties of
  21. merchantability and of fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no
  22. liability for damages, direct or consequential, which may result from
  23. the use of File Viewer."

  25. File Viewer is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to
  26. the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but
  27. please do not give it away altered or as part of another system. The
  28. essence of "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer
  29. users with quality software without high prices, and yet to provide
  30. incentive for programmers to continue to develop new products. If you
  31. find this program useful and find that you are using File Viewer and
  32. continue to use File Viewer after a reasonable trial period, you must
  33. make a registration payment of $10.00 to Maze Computer Communications.
  34. The $10.00 registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
  35. computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like a
  36. book. An example is that this software may be used by any number of
  37. people and may be freely moved from one computer location to another,
  38. so long as there is no possibility of it being used at one location
  39. while it's being used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two
  40. different persons at the same time.

  42. Commercial users of File Viewer must register and pay for their copies
  43. of File Viewer within 30 days of first use or their license is
  44. withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made by contacting Maze
  45. Computer Communications.

  47. Anyone distributing File Viewer for any kind of remuneration must
  48. first contact Maze Computer Communications at the address below for
  49. authorization. This authorization will be automatically granted to
  50. distributors recognized by the (ASP) as adhering to its guidelines for
  51. shareware distributors, and such distributors may begin offering File
  52. Viewer immediately (However Maze Computer Communications must still be
  53. advised so that the distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest
  54. version of File Viewer).

  56. You are encouraged to pass a copy of File Viewer along to your friends
  57. for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if they
  58. find that they can use it.

  60. This program does not have any printed documentation - all information
  61. on use and capabilities is included in the online help.

  88. Definition Of Shareware
  89. =======================

  91. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before
  92. buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you
  93. are expected to register. Individual programs differ on details --
  94. some request registration while others require it, some specify a
  95. maximum trial period. With registration, you get anything from the
  96. simple right to continue using the software to an updated program with
  97. printed manual.

  99. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and
  100. the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  101. exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  102. programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are of
  103. comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs and bad
  104. ones!) The main difference is in the method of distribution. The
  105. author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute the
  106. software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For
  107. example, some authors require written permission before a commercial
  108. disk vendor may copy their Shareware.

  110. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should
  111. find software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's
  112. commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs
  113. easier, because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead
  114. is low, prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back
  115. guarantee - if you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.

  120. Future Plans
  121. ============
  122. We do not intend to add display of Windows or Windows apps formats. The
  123. originators of those files will always make a much better job of displaying
  124. them. There will be no WinWord, Paintbrush or Excel file display. What we
  125. do consider is low-level display of files in various formats. For example PCX
  126. headers, BIFF records or RIFF chunks. We also do consider display of ZIP
  127. directories and NTFS/HPFS file attributes.

  129. Future plans for this program include the following items.  These are plans,
  130. They may get changed:  dropped if there is not enough interest - read
  131. registered users, or expanded according to user's feedback.  We reserve the
  132. right to change plans at our discretion without giving any reason.

  135. version is at this time source-level compatible with Windows 3.1 version but
  136. is compiled as native 32-bit WinNT application.  Some #ifdef magic was
  137. necessary to make this happen.  In future versions File View for Windows NT
  138. will support some NT specific features (long file names, NTFS gimmicks,
  139. Unicode etc.)
