- Name : C64 Ripp Off Music Collection, VOL 4.
- Description : A collection of C64 music from 1983-89
- Author : Jan D. Harries, Nyborgvej 79, 5000 Odense C, Denmark
- Date of Completion : 18. October 1994
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- 1. First, some info about this music-compilation
-
- * This collection uses PlaySID 2.2/3.0,
- (C) 1991-94 by Per Håkan Sundell & Ron Birk.
-
- For those who do not have PlaySID (unspeakable thought);
- the complete doc and other stuff that comes with PlaySID 2.2,
- should be present in this archive.
-
- * The tunes are now in 1-Parted fileformat. If you need .info files,
- you can convert them with SidConv 1.3 (comes with PlaySID 3.0)
-
- * This collection is VOL 4. (92 pieces of C64 Music)
-
- VOL 3 (73 pieces of C64 Music) was released August 1994.
- VOL 2 (234 pieces of C64 Music) was released January 1994.
- VOL 1 (256 pieces of C64 Music) was released August 1993.
-
- * Included are also some small programs/scripts for converting the
- contents of a PlaySID 1-Part file to a general ASCII file.
- (Read the appropriate documentation for more information)
-
- * I included some C64 picture which I couldn't resist;
- this also includes the complete pictures from the demos of
- The Supply Team. As some people may recall, Hagar & TSN were the
- graphicians of TST.
-
- The pictures have been converted to IFF to ensure the best
- possible coloration.
-
- * Since only Per Håkan Sundell and Michael Busse has sent me any
- music, I presume that you are all just a lousy bunch of
- I-Wanna-Have-It-All-And-Give-Nothing-In-Return persons. (nag nag)
-
- * IF YOU HAVE CONVERTED SOME C64 MUSIC TOO, PLEASE SEND IT TO ME!
-
- * If you find that some tunes won't play, please read chapter 2.
- very carefully.
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- 2. Then, some info about the music
-
- * I have converted some tunes that were badly ripped/converted.
- If you think you have any of the tunes allready, please check
- out your 'old' copy first; it might be corrupted.
-
- These tunes have the filename-extension "-OK", and they are:
-
- GameMusic/
-
- A) Rainbow Dragon (Hagar), the one I got with PSID 2.2 was faulty
- and started to play wrong at pos (1:52)
- There are more Hagar gametunes in this pack, look out for them!
-
- Hagar is from England, and is not the same person as Hagar from
- The Supply Team. He called himself 'Hagar The Horrible', as did
- my dear friend Hagar, also known as Martin Birk Pedersen.
-
-
- B) Slap Fight (Martin Galway), the one I got with PSID 1.0b was
- faulty and crashed PlaySID when playing the ingame tunes.
-
- I have put the real loadertune in this conversion.
-
-
- C) Wizard Wars (Rob Hubbard), nothing was wrong, but there are 5
- tunes in it.
-
-
- DemoMusic/
-
- A) Unknown/Miracle Mix, I ripped it badly first time, but
- now it works!
-
-
- * I have added comments to some of the tunes, if you wanna read...
-
- * Please be patient, some tunes may take 1-3 seconds to start
-
- * Some tunes won't play unless the REWIND option in PlaySID is
- switched on.
- (This is only the case if using PlaySID 1.0b,2.1 or 2.2)
-
- Correct the error by activating REWIND, BEFORE loading the tune.
-
- * Some tunes take much more CPU time when using PlaySID 3.0 than
- they do with any lower version.
-
- * GameMusic/ Zig Zag (Anthony Crowther): this piece uses a LOT of
- your CPU time, so be warned! (I have an A1200, so no problem here)
- (OK, actually it FREEZES a 68000!)
-
-
- * I'm sorry for the lack of info about Author/(C) on some gamemusics.
- I found some of them on one of my old disks, and I can no longer
- remember, nor find the games.
-
- * Incredibly enough, I found a few gametunes by both Rob & Ben that
- have not yet been converted. (that I know of)
-
- * Rob Hubbard:
-
- Included in this collection are some of the very first music by
- him. Try checking out "Synth Sample III", tune nr. 5 (Blue Danube)
-
- Included is also Dragon's Lair (1), but I don't know if Rob did
- it !???
-
- * The Delta Loader by Rob has many possibilities in mixing the
- waveforms and rhythms, and it therefore includes no less than
- 256 different mixes! Actually there are 720 !, but I only had the
- 64's 8-bit Accumulator for initializing the sound.
-
- The music is organized so that a new lead, drum and bass is set
- every new songnr you choose.
- The fx is changed every 48th song.
-
- Default song with different fx are: 0, 49, 97, 145, 193, 241
-
- Try your patience, and have fun!
-
-
- * Ben Dalglish:
-
- Stairway To Heaven (WEMUSIC #7); this is not a bad rip, but merely
- a low effort from Ben. But if you listen (of FFWD), you will hear
- that a new theme emerges after 5:35 min. The song swaps allright in
- the end.
-
- * The Chicken Song:
-
- Well, there have been made several versions of this song, but
- here's the first ever; by Barry 'Bazza' Leitch. You old dudes
- will remember that some people, including Rob Hubbard, made fun of
- Bazza by deliberately composing a somewhat 'detuned' version of
- the song too.
-
- * GameMusic/Tropical Fever:
-
- This was a really nasty one. I don't know the authors name, but
- it's definately the same routine as Flight Path 747.
- Can anyone tell me the authors name ?
- I also couldn't find the copyright, cause HEADBANGER has written
- his autograph instead of it! (Fuck you HEADBANGER!)
-
- If you transfer it to C64, you can hear the VERY nice use of filters.
-
- * GameMusic/Boulder Dash:
-
- Well, not a real cool tune, but an example of how small it can
- sometimes get. Without PSID header and transfer-routine, it only
- takes up 903 bytes. (And I may even have saved 16 bytes too much)
-
- The playroutine is only from $875B-$87C6.
-
- This tune demonstrates the problem of looping very short waveforms
- in such a way that they don't 'click'.
- Many tunes do this, you just don't notice because of all the other
- sounds.
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- 3. And Then, some last words about RIPP OFF, Thanks, Composers,
- and myself.
-
-
- * RIPP OFF:
-
- I still have some problems... AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHH!!!!!!!
-
- This collection took 3 months to construct!
-
- * Thanks to:
-
- Per Håkan Sundell & Ron Birk
- - for creating and optimizing PlaySID, music and emulators
-
- Ulf Diabelez Harries
- - for creating SidList.rexx & PSIDtoDBase.rexx
-
- Martin Birk Pedersen (Hagar)
- Torben Sjørslev Nielsen (TSN)
- Brian Nevad Hansen (Nevada)
- - for lending me hardware, software, and moral support.
-
- Michael Busse
- - for music and emulators
-
- * COMPOSERS:
-
- Thanks to all the great composers. Without them, the C64 would never
- have been what is was.
-
- Read AuthorList.doc for more.
-
- * A poem ?
-
- The thought of giving up, accepting defeat, has crossed my mind
- - and left my mind.
-
- * If you have some games or demos with music in them, that you would
- like to have converted, or you simply just wan't to support the
- C64 Ripp Off Music Collection, please send some music NOW!
-
- I will answer ANYONE who writes, and i WILL send your disks back!
