  2. * Dehydroquinase class II signature *

  5. 3-dehydroquinate dehydratase  (EC  4.2.1.10)  (dehydroquinase)  catalyzes  the
  6. conversion of  3-dehydroquinate  into 3-dehydroshikimate. It is the third step
  7. in the  shikimate  pathway  for  the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids from
  8. chorismate. Two classes of dehydroqinases exist, known as types I and type II.
  9. Class-II enzymes are homododecameric enzymes of about 17 Kd. They are found in
  10. some bacteria  such as actinomycetales [1] and in some fungi where they act in
  11. a catabolic pathway  that allows to  use  quinic acid as a carbon source. As a
  12. signature pattern,  we  have  selected  a  conserved  region in the N-terminal
  13. section.
