- * Bacterial formate and nitrite transporters signatures *
- *********************************************************
-
- A number of bacterial and archebacterial proteins involved in the transport
- of formate or nitrite have been shown [1] to be related:
-
- - focA, from Escherichia coli, a transporter involved in the bidirectional
- transport of formate.
- - fdhC, from Methanobacterium formicicum, a probable formate transporter.
- - nirC, from Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium, a probable nitrite
- transporter.
-
- These transporters are proteins of about 280 residues that seem to contain six
- transmembrane regions. As signature patterns, we selected two conserved
- regions. The first one seems to be located in a cytoplasmic loop between the
- second and third transmembrane domains and the second is in a periplasmic loop
- between the fifth and sixth transmembrane regions.
-
- -Consensus pattern: G-[SA]-[DE]-L-F-T-[GS]
- -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL.
- -Other sequence(s) detected in SWISS-PROT: NONE.
-
- -Consensus pattern: F-[LIVM]-x(2)-G-[FY]-E-H-x-[LIVM]-A-N-M-x(3)-[PA]
- -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL.
- -Other sequence(s) detected in SWISS-PROT: NONE.
