  5. The following kinases contains, in  their N-terminal section, a conserved Gly/
  6. Ser-rich region which is probably involved in  the binding of ATP [1].   These
  7. kinases are listed below.
  8.  
  9.  - Galactokinase (EC 2.7.1.6).
  10.  - Homoserine kinase (EC 2.7.1.39).
  11.  - Mevalonate kinase (EC 2.7.1.36).
  12.  - Phosphomevalonate kinase (EC 2.7.4.2).

  14. We have called this group of kinases 'GHMP' (from  the  first  letter of their
  15. substrate).

  17. -Consensus pattern: [LIVM]-P-x-[GSTA]-x(0,1)-G-L-[GS]-S-S-[GSA]-[GSTAC]
  18. -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL,  except
  19.  for P.aeruginosa homoserine kinase which does not  seem to be homologous with
  20.  the other GHMP kinases.
