- * Tissue factor signature *
- ***************************
-
- Tissue factor (TF) [1,2] is an integral membrane glycoprotein that initiates
- blood coagulation by forming a complex with circulating factor VII or VIIa.
- The complex then activates factors IX or X by specific limited proteolysis.
-
- The mature form of TF is a protein of about 250 amino acid residues. TF
- consists of an extracellular domain of about 210 residues that contains two
- disulfide bonds, followed by a transmembrane region and a short cytoplasmic
- C-terminal domain. This structure is shown in the following schematic
- representation:
-
- +----------*****---------------------------------------xxxxx----+
- | C C Extracellular C C XXXXX Cyt|
- +-----------|-|--------------------------------|----|--xxxxx----+
- | | | | Transm.
- +-+ +----+
-
- 'C': conserved cysteine involved in a disulfide bond.
- '*': position of the pattern.
-
- As a pattern for TF, we have used the region centered on the two cysteines
- involved in the first disulfide bond.
-
- -Consensus pattern: W-K-x-K-C-F-x-T-x-[DE]-T-E-C-D-L-T-D-E
- [The two C's are linked by a disulfide bond]
- -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL.
- -Other sequence(s) detected in SWISS-PROT: NONE.
- -Last update: June 1992 / First entry.
