- * Ribosomal protein L15 signature *
- ***********************************
-
- Ribosomal protein L15 is one of the proteins from the large ribosomal subunit.
- In Escherichia coli, L15 is known to bind the 23S rRNA. It belongs to a family
- of ribosomal proteins which, on the basis of sequence similarities [1],
- groups:
-
- - Eubacterial L15.
- - Archaebacterial L15.
- - Plant chloroplast L15 (nuclear-encoded).
- - Mammalian L27a.
- - Tetrahymena thermophila L29.
- - Fungi L27a (L29, CRP-1, CYH2).
-
- L15 is a protein of 144 to 154 amino-acid residues. As a signature pattern, we
- selected a conserved region in the C-terminal section of these proteins.
-
- -Consensus pattern: K-[LIVM](2)-x(2)-G-x-[LIVM]-x(3,4)-[LIVM]-x-[LIVMF]-x(4)-
- [LIVMF]-[ST]-x(2)-A-x(3)-[LIVM]-x(3)-G
- -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL, except
- for Chlamydia trachomatis L15.
- -Other sequence(s) detected in SWISS-PROT: NONE.
- -Last update: June 1994 / Text revised.
