- * Ribosomal protein L11 signature *
- ***********************************
-
- Ribosomal protein L11 is one of the proteins from the large ribosomal subunit.
- In Escherichia coli, L11 is known to bind directly to the 23S rRNA. It belongs
- to a family of ribosomal proteins which, on the basis of sequence similarities
- [1,2], groups:
-
- - Eubacterial L11.
- - Archaebacterial L11.
- - Plant chloroplast L11 (nuclear-encoded).
- - Mammalian L12.
- - Yeast L12 (YL15).
-
- L11 is a protein of 140 to 165 amino-acid residues. As a signature pattern, we
- have selected a conserved region located in the C-terminal section of these
- proteins. In Escherichia coli, the C-terminal half of L11 has been shown [3]
- to be in an extended and loosely folded conformation and is likely to be
- buried within the ribosomal structure.
-
- -Consensus pattern: [RKN]-x-[LIVM]-x-G-[ST]-x(2)-[SN]-[LIVM]-G-x(2)-[LIVM]-
- x(0,1)-[DEN]
- -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL.
- -Other sequence(s) detected in SWISS-PROT: NONE.
- -Last update: June 1994 / Pattern and text revised.
