  5. In proteins belonging to cytochrome c family [1], the heme group is covalently
  6. attached  by thioether bonds to two conserved cysteine residues. The consensus
  7. sequence for this site is Cys-X-X-Cys-His and the histidine  residue is one of
  8. the two axial  ligands of  the heme iron.   This arrangement is shared  by all
  9. proteins known  to  belong  to  cytochrome  c family, which presently includes
  10. cytochromes c, c', c1 to c6, c550 to c556,  cc3/Hmc, cytochrome f and reaction
  11. center cytochrome c.

  14. -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL,  except
  15.  for four cytochrome c's which lack the first thioether bond.
