  5. A number of eukaryotic  and  archaebacterial ribosomal proteins can be grouped
  6. on the basis of sequence similarities. One of these families consists of:
  7.  
  8.  - Rat ribosomal protein L39 [1].
  9.  - Yeast ribosomal protein L46 [2].
  10.  - Sulfolobus solfataricus ribosomal protein L46e [3].
  11.  - Halobacterium marismortui ribosomal protein HL46e [4].
  12.  
  13. These proteins  are  very basic. About 50 residues long, they are the smallest
  14. proteins of  eukaryotic-type ribosomes.  As a signature pattern, we selected a
  15. conserved region in the C-terminal section of these proteins.
