  5. NOTE:  Please read this entire file before installing Roids, lest you make
  6.        a mistake you might regret.

  8. First of all, this is a beta release.  That means it has bugs.  I'm unable to test 
  9. Roids on any other computers, so you get to do that for me.  PLEASE notify me 
  10. if you find any bugs!  That way I can ensure that the final product has as few 
  11. problems as possible.

  13. I.  Description
  14.  
  15.   Roids is an arcade-style space demolition game for the OS/2 2.x Presentation
  16.   Manager.  Fly your spaceship around blasting Bad Guys and hapless chunks 
  17.   of rock into nothingness.  Very socially redeeming stuff, but hey, it's fun!

  20. II. Installation
  21.  
  22.   A. Current Users:
  23.  
  24.     First of all, DON'T DELETE THE OLD ROIDS.INI FILE!  The new version will 
  25.   work with the old ROIDS.INI file, although some options may be reset 
  26.   due to changes in they are saved in the .INI file.  Just copy the contents 
  27.   of ROIDS21.ZIP over the old files, and make sure the old ROIDS.INI is in the 
  28.   same subdirectory as ROIDS.EXE.

  30.   B. New Users:
  31.  
  32.     OK.  To install Roids, copy ROIDS.EXE, ROIDS.HLP, and all the associated 
  33.   .WAV files to the same subdirectory.  (I.E. C:\OS2\GAMES\ROIDS)  Create an 
  34.   object for Roids using the Program template.  Activate the Program tab in the 
  35.   Settings notebook for the new object, and under "Path and file name:" enter the 
  36.   path and filename of Roids (I.E. C:\OS2\GAMES\ROIDS\ROIDS.EXE).  Under 
  37.   "Working directory" enter the Roids subdirectory (I.E. C:\OS2\GAMES\ROIDS).
  38.   That's all there is to it.

  41. III. Troubleshooting
  42.  
  43.   If Roids starts behaving strangely or stops working, there are a few
  44.   things you can try:
  45.  
  46.   A.  In the Options menu, select "Defaults".  This resets the
  47.       ROIDS.INI file.
  48.  
  49.   B.  If that fails, delete the ROIDS.INI file.  The file will be
  50.       recreated next time you run Roids.
  51.  
  52.       BE CAREFUL!  If your copy of Roids is registered (and I certainly hope
  53.       it is!), make sure you write down your name and User ID EXACTLY as they
  54.       appear in the Product information window.  Once the ROIDS.INI file has
  55.       been deleted, your registration information will be lost.  Re-enter your
  56.       name and User ID in the Register dialog to restore Roids' record of your
  57.       registration.
  58.  
  59.   C.  And if THAT fails, ROIDS.EXE is probably corrupted.  Re-install it
  60.       from the .ZIP file or get another copy somehow.  The latest version is
  61.       usually available on CompuServe.

  63.   If you're getting errors regarding the Help system, make sure that
  64.   ROIDS.HLP is in the Roids Working directory (see above).

  66.   If you're having problems with MMPM sound, consult the on-line help.
