  1. TORN-PAPER TURTLE
  2.  
  3. YOU'LL NEED:
  4. Crayons or markers
  5. Construction paper
  6. Scissors
  7. One 6- or 7-inch flexible paper plate
  8. Tape
  9. One 3x5-inch index card, cut into four 1 1/2x2 1/2-inch pieces
  10. Construction paper, gift wrap, or magazine pages
  11. White crafts glue
  12.  
  13. STEP 1
  14. First, draw a turtle head on construction paper.  
  15.  
  16. Then draw a triangle for the turtle tail. Cut out the head and tail.
  17.  
  18. Fold the paper plate in half.  Be sure to press the fold firmly with your fingers.  And then unfold the plate.
  19.  
  20. STEP 2
  21. Tape the head to the inside of the plate, just above the fold. Then tape the tail to the other side, just above the fold and inside the plate.

  23. Next, press the plate together on the fold and tape shut.

  25. For the toes and feet, draw 3 lines on each index card piece.  Tape 2 feet to each side of the plate along the fold.

  27. STEP 3
  28. For the turtle shell, tear construction paper into small squares.  
  29.  
  30. Apply a dab of glue to the plate.  Then firmly press a paper square onto the glue.  Keep on gluing the squares onto the plate till it is completely covered.

  32. Finally, to make the turtle stand up, fold each foot right next to the shell.

  34. Way to go! You've made a torn-paper turtle!
