Slugs are snails without shells. They work at night, leaving behind slimy trails that sparkle in the morning sun. Slugs eat jagged holes in leaves and prefer moist conditions. Hand-pick them. You also might try setting out shallow dishes of beer for them to crawl in and drown. You can also use commercial poison bait, but be sure to keep pets away from it.
