If you need a trouble-free conifer for your landscape, the yew is one of the best plants to choose. Its dark green, l- inch needles are complemented by red berries in midsummer. Desirable for year-round landscape use because of its evergreen nature and its growth habits, yews fall into two basic groups: English ( T. baccata) and Japanese ( T. cuspidata). T. x media is a cross between the two. Yews can be found in a number of shapes, including globe, vase, columnar, pyramidal, or ground hugging.
