One- to 4-inch single or double flowers appear in late spring. Single flowered varieties are followed by 2-1/2-inch yellow-red edible fruit in the fall. Both types have leaves that turn yellow in the fall. Colors include white, yellow, and bicolors. Smaller varieties are available.

Likes hot, dry situations. Use as specimen plants or in informal hedges and screens. Needs little pruning. Prune before new growth in the spring.
