Yellow, brown, or green, slender, wedge-shaped insects. They're less than a half-inch long and flit away as you pass. They're especially active on East and West coasts, but are found across the country. Leafhoppers suck juices from leaves, causing the grass to turn white, yellow, and then brown. Treat your lawn with soapy water and tobacco juice (soak chewing tobacco in an old stocking in a pint of hot water overnight). Use diazinon if needed. These pests are seldom serious.
