  2. Also called creeping myrtle or common periwinkle

  5. Produces a fine, evergreen trailing carpet.  Roots in as it grows.  Height about 6 inches.  Has glossy, 3/4- to 1-inch leaves.  Spreads out in all directions.  Cover is dotted with 1-inch-diameter, lavender-blue flowers in early spring.

Takes full sun in zones 4 to 7; light to deep shade in all areas.  One of the best plants for cover.  Does well in most soils.  Good for slopes.  Little care, except trimming, needed once established.  Start from cuttings or divisions.  Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart.  Makes attractive backgound for spring-flowering bulbs
