Plants spread quickly by underground stems. Glossy green tops grow 9 to 12 inches tall and produce clusters of 3/4-inch cobalt blue flowers that appear in late summer to early fall. Semievergreen. New foliage slow to appear in some areas.

Useful as an under-planting for shrubbery and as a cover for banks and slopes. Also, useful in small bed near patio, where the colorful flowers can be admired. Leaves are red bronze in fall. Can overrun area if not confined. Prefers well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Space plants 18 to 24 inches apart. Discourage weeds with mulch between new plants. Easy to grow new plants from little rooted divisions. Shear established planting to ground in early spring to stimulate fresh foliage. Flowers appear at tips of new growth.
