Evergreen; a trailing shrub in warm climates. Arching 18- to 24-inch-high canes are covered with dark green, 1-inch long, serrated-edge leaves. Many fragrant 3/4- to 1-inch clusters of lavender flowers. New varieties have white, yellow, and orange blooms.

Makes colorful cover on sun-drenched slopes. With-stands drought, but does best with occasional watering. Does well in almost any soil. Cuttings taken in early fall can be rooted and set out in spring. Space plants 18 inches apart and plant anytime. Also can be propagated by layering. Cut back plants in spring before new growth starts. This eliminates old wood and stimulates new thick branching and good flowering.
