  1. Umbrella Plant
  2. Also called umbrella palm, umbrella sedge
  3. (Cyperus alternifolius)

  5. Shiny, narrow leaves form small umbrellas atop the slender grassy stems of umbrella plant.  An aquatic plant, umbrella plant needs constant moisture.  Dwarf varieties are easiest to grow.  Do not confuse this plant with umbrella tree (schefflera).

  8. Place in high light (full sun) in winter and medium (bright indirect) light rest of year.  Grows well if under artificial light 14 hours a day.

  11. Keep constantly wet by placing pot in water-filled saucer.  Mist often.  Raise humidity.

  14. Maintain average temperatures.  Plant prefers cool temperatures (to mid-50s) at night.

  17. Feed every 14 days with dilute acid solution during active growth.  If plant looks bad, cut back to base.  Propagate by leaf-bud cuttings (start in water), division, suckers, or seed.
