Tough and long-lived, screw pine looks like a trunkless palm. The leaves of some species have saw-tooth edges. A native of Malaysia, screw pine, despite its name, is not part of the pine family.
Light
Expose to medium (bright indirect) light. Avoid full sun. Vary location by season for best results. Grows well if under artificial light 16 hours per day. Proper light is the key to maintaining variegation in some species.
Water
Allow soil to dry out between thorough waterings. Mist daily. Raise humidity, especially in the winter.
Temperature
Maintain high temperatures for best growth. Tolerates average temperatures.

Pot in 10-inch clay pot, using porous soil that drains freely. Pot up only if severely root-bound. Guide aerial roots into soil; they'll take root. Feed every 14 days with mild solution during active growth. Clean leaves by running sponge up from base of plant. Remove dead leaves. Never use leaf polishes. Propagate by suckers.
