Sago palm, despite its name, is not really a palm. Its trunk resembles a pinecone supporting fern-like fronds up to five feet long. The plant grows slowly, but can outgrow its space over a period of years.
Light
Place in medium light (eastern exposure) year-round. If placed outdoors in summer, locate in northern exposure.
Water
Keep evenly moist at all times. Water less during winter. Never let roots dry out.
Temperature
Maintain average temperatures. Tolerates dips into the low 50s.
Comments
Pot up only when severely root-bound. Remove yellow fronds. Wash dust from fronds every three weeks. Many pesticides kill this plant, so read labels carefully. Because leaves bruise easily, place out of traffic. Propagate by seed or suckers in spring.
