Colored patterns and metallic markings make rex begonia a most desirable indoor plant.
Light
Expose to medium (bright indirect) light except in fall and winter, when light should be reduced. Avoid full sun.
Water
Keep soil evenly moist except in fall and winter, when watering should be reduced. Do not mist foliage. Raise humidity.
Temperature
Maintain average temperatures during active growth. Cool temperatures (not below 60) better in fall-winter dormancy.
Comments
Plant rhizomes in shallow pot. Use peat-rich soil. Once plant is growing, feed every 14 days with dilute solution. Swirl dusty leaves in warm water; let drip-dry in warm room in low light. When leaves die back in fall, reduce watering and stop fertilizing. Store in cool, dark spot until February. Then, water more and bring into light. Propagate by seed or leaf cuttings.
