Graceful and well shaped, Norfolk Island pine has the delicately opposed branches of a pine tree. Needles are stiff, but soft. The tree grows slowly, producing one tier of opposed branches each year.
Light
Expose to medium (bright indirect) light. Avoid full sun. Sheds needles in low light. Place outdoors in shade during summer.
Water
Allow soil surface to dry between thorough waterings. Mist around but not directly on foliage. Likes humidity, but tolerates dryness.
Temperature
Maintain cool temperatures (even into 40s) at night for best growth. Plant tolerates average temperatures. Avoid cold drafts.
Comments
Match pot size to plant. Use porous soil. Pot up into a pot two sizes larger when necessary. During active growth, feed every 21 days; reduce feeding in fall and winter. Propagate by seed or tip cutting. Cutting needs high humidity to root. Removal of tip will deform plant.
