Lipstick plant produces long vines with small tubular flowers, usually scarlet with yellow throats. Related species vary widely. Choose according to what most appeals to you: foliage, flowers, or scent.
Light
Place in high light (southern exposure) during winter and medium (bright indirect) light the rest of the year. Good light can extend bloom for months.
Water
Keep evenly moist at all times. Plant drops buds and leaves if dry. Mist early each day. Raise humidity.
Temperature
Maintain temperatures in the 80s during the day for best growth. Plant tolerates average temperatures. Avoid cold drafts.
Comments
Use peat moss and osmunda as growing medium. Feed monthly with mild solution during active growth. After bloom, cut back to six inches. Plant will regenerate and produce many buds. Propagate by seed, ground layering, or tip cuttings (provide high humidity and warmth).
