  5. Brake fern has feathery, almost soft foliage.  Cultural needs vary by species, but the following suggestions apply to most.

  8. Expose to medium (bright indirect) light of east window.  Too much sun pales fronds.

  11. Allow soil surface to dry out between thorough waterings.  Mist as often as possible.  Keep humidity very high.

  14. Maintain temperatures in the low 70s during the day and mid-50s at night.

  17. Grow in clay pots, if possible; they breathe, keeping roots cool.  Use porous growing medium high in organic matter.  Feed every three weeks with mild fertilizer in spring and summer, less often in fall and winter.  Pot up only when badly root-bound.  Propagate by division or spores.
