Seeds have a long germination period. It's better to make stem cuttings or root divisions in the spring or fall. The perennial grows to only eight inches and likes shady, moist, acid soil. It spreads rapidly and requires pruning.

Snip leaves while the plant is in bloom. Dry in a shady, well-ventilated place.
