The plants in the caladium species offer a wide choice of spectacular color in intricately marked leaves of white, pink, red, green, silver, and combinations of each. Remove their insignificant blooms.

Start the bulbs indoors for 4 to 6 weeks in trays of vermiculite with bottom heat. Repot as they grow. Put outdoors only after the ground is warm and the danger of frost passes. Lift bulbs and bring in for winter or let pots go bone-dry for two months. Acid soil gives deepest colors. Propagate by bulb divisions.
