One- to 2-inch, bonnet-shaped flowers on climbing plants 20 to 30 inches tall. A dwarf bush type will reach 15 inches tall. All colors (except yellow), plus bicolors. Petals of different varieties may be ruffled or plain.
Soil and Light
Full sun or partial shade. Rich, well-drained soil kept moist.
Planting
Sow outside as soon as soil can be worked. In warm climate, plant in fall; mulch. Vining types need early support.
Comments
Soak seeds. Use an inoculant of nitrogen-fixing bacteria coated on the seeds before planting. Use plant in beds or window boxes. Enjoys cool weather, does not flourish where summers are hot.
