Flowers are mostly bright yellow or orange, though some are cream or apricot colored. "Pacific Beauty" mix and "Kablouna" mix grow to about 20 inches tall. Dwarf types, growing only 12 inches tall, include "Fiesta Gitana" and "Dwarf Gem" mix.
Soil and Light
Ideally suited to mild, coastal climates--where it will flower during winter, spring, and early summer--and to high-elevation gardens with mild summer temperatures. Locate in full sun or partial shade, in rich, well-drained soil. Established plants grow in fairly dry conditions, but produce much better in moist soil.
Planting
In hot-summer locations, plant in early spring for flowering before the onset of intense summer heat. Sow directly in the garden or set transplants in mid-spring zones 1-5. Elsewhere, plant in fall. Remove faded flowers to foster reblooming.
Comments
To discourage powdery mildew disease, locate where air circulation is good, and avoid crowding.
