  7. 1.0 Installation:
  8. -----------------

  10.   For both versions (Windows 3.1 and 95/NT) the setup is done automatically.  You just have 
  11.   to double click on the SETUP.EXE file.  The default directory is "DRIVE:\Program Files\TheOther".
  12.   You can change that directory and select something in your root directory.

  14. 2.0 Running the program
  15. -------------

  17.   In Windows 95, go to the START button and select from PROGRAMS The Other Internet Package.  
  18.   You can also create a shortcut by right-clicking anywhere on your screen and selecting NEW 
  19.   and then SHORTCUT.  The Shortcut Wizard will direct you.  Once you have the program icon on 
  20.   your screen you can double click on it every time you wish to start the Other Internet Package.

  22.   In Windows 3.xx, you can place the program icon in one of your existing groups.  You select 
  23.   NEW from the FILE menu item and complete the steps in the dialog box that appears on your screen.

  25.   When you run the program for the first time:

  27.       - the file theother.ini will be created in the windows directory
  28.         where PROGNAME is the name of the executable
  29.       - FOLDERS, CACHE and TEMP directories will be created in the directory that theOther was
  30.         installed into

  32.   Set your mail and news properties by selecting the SETTINGS command under the OPTIONS menu item.

  34.   There is also a SETTINGS Wizard under the same menu item.  If you are not sure about the 
  35.   information you need to provide, you can use this Wizard to assist you.

  38. 3.0 How To
  39. ----------

  41.   Open the Help File, select the How To section.  Alternatively, read the various Help Screens as 
  42.   they provide detailed information about the functioning of the program.  However, it is the hope 
  43.   of the developers of this program that you would be able to complete most tasks without 
  44.   consulting the Help Files.

  47. 4.0 New features
  48. ----------------

  50.   This version of the Other Internet Package supports Helper Applications, which is the ability to run 
  51.   files through the Browser if you have application software already installed for these files in your 
  52.   Windows setup.  For instance, if you have MS Excel already installed in your computer you can download 
  53.   a file with .xls extension and run it directly without first saving it.  The Other Internet Package 
  54.   checks your database registry every time it is launched to find out which applications have already 
  55.   been installed.

  57.   The 32-bit version supports Netscape plug-ins whereas the 16-bit does not, at least for the most part.  
  58.   There are some ill-behaved programs that may not work.  We hope to solve this problem by the next version.  
  59.   You also have to not that most plug-in programs expect to find Netscape.exe in order to install as they 
  60.   were developed to run with Netscape only.  Consequently, installing one of these plug-ins requires the 
  61.   existence of Netscape Navigator on your hard drive.  Once the installation is done, next time you start 
  62.   the Other Internet Package, it will go and check which plug-in programs have been installed and will make 
  63.   the necessary configuration changes.

  65.   This version also introduces signatures in mail and news. You can either prepare a text file or edit one
  66.   on-the-fly and have it attached to all your messages.  Just select the Options button in Mail or News 
  67.   windows.  This version also fixes several bugs and formatting erros and introduces server-pull animation.
