  1. Welcome to ED, a simple public domain word processing system.
  2. The ED word processing disk should contain the following files:

  24. and maybe more '.DAT'- and '.TBL'-files.  Please check if the
  25. system is complete with the DOS 'DIR' command.  Make copies
  26. of your original disk and store the original in a safe place.
  27.   Output the documentation file on your printer using LPRINT.EXE
  28. (don't try to use PRINT.COM for this purpose).  Insert the disk
  29. and enter 'LPRINT' at the DOS prompt.  LPRINT prompts you for
  30. entering the column to start print at.  LPRINT allows you to
  31. shift the text a little to the right on the paper (output leading
  32. spaces).  Then follows the line width (usually 80).  Lines per
  33. page: If you don't use endless paper, you should enter the number
  34. of lines fitting on the page (sheet).  LPRINT then pauses after
  35. every page, to allow you to insert the next sheet of paper.
  36. If you use endless paper, enter '0'.  Filename: Enter
  37. 'ENGLISH.DOC', if you want the English language documentation,
  38. 'DEUTSCH.DOC' is in German.
  39.   Note that the '#'-character may print as '£' on some printers.
  40. There is no '£' in the '.DOC'-files.  You should avoid this
  41. by switching your printer to U.S. ASCII or IBM character code.
