R E V E L A T I O N T U T O R I A L
Written for individuals who have little background with the
Bible book of Revelation, as well as for those who wish to
review what they already know from a fresh perspective,
REVELATION TUTORIAL is designed to provide a solid overview
of this intriguing but enigmatic book.
I. Major Features of REVELATION TUTORIAL.
1. PROGRAMMING
The tutorial utilizes the "chain" provision of Borland's
Turbo Basic program, including three steps:
a. The Initialization routine ( REV.EXE)
b. The Project Menu (MENU.EXE)
c. The Projects (lessons) ( ???.TBC)
The first disk covers chapters 1-10 of the book of
Revelation, the second disk covers chapters 11-22.
After you become familiar with the program, you may
bypass the Initialization routine and enter REVELATION
TUTORIAL by typing MENU at the prompt rather than REV .
2. PEDAGOGY
REVELATION TUTORIAL employs essentially two types of
exercises:
a. Factual exercises designed to produce acquaintance
with the data of the book of Revelation.
b. Interpretive exercises designed to elicit meanings.
Please understand that with such a symbolic book as
Revelation, interpretive judgments are to some extent
controversial.
3. BIBLE VERSION
The New International Version of the Bible (NIV) is used
throughout REVELATION TUTORIAL; more specifically,
"The NIV Study Bible".
4. ON-SCREEN INSTRUCTIONS
REVELATION TUTORIAL provides clear and complete
instructions on-screen for all questions. Press the
ENTER key if nothing is happening (but only once,
because the computer may do unexpected things otherwise).
5. HOMILY
REVELATION TUTORIAL provides occasional summaries of
current studies under the rubric of HOMILY. These are
short interpretive perspectives on the section being
studied.
6. SELF-TEST
At the end of the second disk, REVELATION TUTORIAL
provides a unique Self-test (Project 230). Again,
complete on-screen instructions guide you through to the
end. Answer Windows are provided -- after you have
committed yourself to an answer! At intervals the Self-
test displays a cumulative record of your progress --
how many points you gained out of the total possible.
And as a grand finale, it displays a Certificate showing
your name, the date, and, yes, your grade on the test!
You may capture this immortal document on paper by using
the SHIFT/PrScr combination on your keyboard.
II. The Function Keys
1. ANSWER WINDOWS ( F1 )
Each question screen comes with its own Answer Window.
When you complete the questions on each screen, you are
prompted to call up the Answer Window. Press the F1
key, then ENTER , and the Answer Window will appear on
screen to provide a check on your answers.
2. RETURN TO DOS ( F2 )
You may exit REVELATION TUTORIAL at any given point by
pressing F2 , then ENTER .
3. MENU ( F3 )
Use the F3 key, then ENTER , to access the original
Project Menu.
4. RESTART SCREEN ( F4 )
Each question screen has a Restart capability.
Unfortunately, it is possible to goof up any given
question screen, either by making incorrect entries, or
by inadvertently pressing wrong keys. When this happens
you may erase the screen and begin it again simply by
pressing the F4 key and then ENTER .
5. ADVANCED RE-ENTRY ( F5 )
You should be able to complete most Projects in an hour
or less. However, there are a few lengthy Projects
which may require more time. If you must interrupt your
progress before completing a Project, you may find your
place next time by using the F5 key:
a. Record (or remember) the screen number upon exiting.
b. Re-enter the Project in the normal manner.
c. Press F5 then ENTER . This will display a box in
which you are asked to enter a screen number.
d. Enter the number of the screen you desire,
then press ENTER .
(NOTE: the F5 key may be used to travel to any screen in
a Project whenever you wish.)
III. Miscellaneous Matters
1. MARKETING
REVELATION TUTORIAL is being marketed by the Shareware
method. Whether you purchase these disks directly, or
acquire them in some other way, you still have a moral
obligation to pay tuition ($15.00) if you do the lessons.
(When and if you get that far, you will find a cute
reminder at the end of each disk.) Send your tuition
payment to:
Revelation Software
2602 Raymond Ave., SE
Grand Rapids, MI 49507
2. AUTHOR
The author (of both the lessons and the programming) is
a minister of the Christian Reformed Church who has
extensive experience as a classroom teacher, minister,
and editor: Rev. Edwin Walhout, D. Min. He promises
that, though you may have theological differences, you
will not be led down tortuous and hopeless paths into
absurd and complicated interpretations. This is a solid
and reliable tutorial, well worth the major effort it
requires!
3. OTHER TUTORIALS
Revelation Software is in the process of developing a
series of tutorials on other Bible books, currently
(1989) the entire set of Paul's letters, emphasizing the
context in which he wrote them. Please write for
information if you are interested.
God bless!
