  47.                Greetings, and  welcome to BIBLEV  4.10!  BIBLEV  (short for
  48.                BIBLE Verse of  the day) is  a program that  will display  a
  49.                BIBLE Verse  on  your  IBM PC  or  other  MS-DOS  compatible
  50.                computer.   BIBLEV has  many customizable  options, allowing
  51.                you  to tailor its  operation to  suit your  personal taste,
  52.                with  its primary goal being  to give you  a spiritual boost
  53.                periodically, as you use your computer.

  57.                -    Automated installation.
  58.                -    Virtually  unlimited verse  capacity  (up to  2 billion
  59.                     verses).
  60.                -    Verse file can be modified with any ASCII text editor.
  61.                -    Choice of  random or  daily  verse display.   In  daily
  62.                     mode,  the  same verse  will  be  displayed every  time
  63.                     BIBLEV is run on a specific date.
  64.                -    A  selection  of  favorite verses  supplied,  from  the
  65.                     Revised Standard Version (RSV).
  66.                -    Current date and time display.
  67.                -    Support for BIOS text, color text, and graphics display
  68.                     modes.
  69.                -    Colors  are  customizable  in color  text  and graphics
  70.                     display modes.
  71.                -    Variety of attractive screen fonts available in graphic
  72.                     display mode.
  73.                -    Super  VGA support  for 800x600  and 1024x768  graphics
  74.                     modes.
  75.                -    User specified time-out allows unattended  reboot, when
  76.                     BIBLEV is executed from AUTOEXEC.BAT.

  108.                INSTALL.EXE    -    Install program for BIBLEV.
  109.                BIBLEV.EXE     -    The main program file.
  110.                BIBLEV.DAY     -    The verse file.
  111.                BIBLEV.CFG     -    The  configuration  file  used to  store
  112.                                    your  color  preferences, font  choices,
  113.                                    etc.
  114.                SVGA16.BGI     -    Graphics  device  driver used  for SVGA,
  115.                                    VGA  and  EGA  graphics  modes.     CGA,
  116.                                    Hercules,  and  Text  mode  support  are
  117.                                    built into the program file.

  119.                                    format.
  120.                REVISION.DOC   -    File  listing  changes  to  BIBLEV  from

  127.           Installation

  129.                BIBLEV 4.10 is  the first version of BIBLEV to  ship with an
  130.                automated installation utility.   To install BIBLEV,  follow
  131.                one of the following two procedures:
  132.  
  133.                1.   If  installing from  a  register BIBLEV  floppy, simply
  134.                     insert  the  floppy   diskette  into  the   appropriate
  135.                     diskette drive,  change to that drive  letter, and type
  136.                     "INSTALL".    For example,  if the  BIBLEV installation
  137.                     floppy  is  in  drive  A:,  then  you  would  type  the
  138.                     following:

  140.                          C:\> A:                  [PRESS ENTER]
  141.                          A:\> INSTALL             [PRESS ENTER]
  142.  
  143.                2.   If you downloaded BIBLEV from a BBS or other electronic
  144.                     service, you  have obviously unzipped  the distribution
  145.                     file at this point.  Simply change to the directory you
  146.                     unzipped BIBLEV into, and type "INSTALL".  For example,
  147.                     if you  unzipped the files into  the directory C:\TEMP,
  148.                     you would type:

  167.                INSTALL will walk you though installing BIBLEV.  Simply read
  168.                and follow the directions on the screen.  If in doubt, press
  169.                ENTER to take the default answer (if there is one), or refer
  170.                to the Options section of this document.

  173.           Configuration
  174.  
  175.                BIBLEV  has  many user-configurable  options.    If you  are
  176.                installing BIBLEV using the automated  INSTALL program, then
  177.                BIBLEV  Setup  will  be  run  automatically  (with  possible
  178.                exceptions on systems with limited free DOS memory).  If you
  179.                are manually installing BIBLEV, or simply want to change the
  180.                original choices you  made, you can  invoke BIBLEV in  Setup
  181.                mode by typing the following at the DOS prompt:

  183.                          BIBLEV S
  184.  
  185.                This will invoke BIBLEV in the 'Setup'  mode.  You will then
  186.                be  prompted  with  a series  of  screens,  allowing you  to
  187.                customize  the operation and appearance of  BIBLEV.  In most
  188.                cases,  the  on-screen  text  should   be  self-explanatory.
  189.                However, if you are  unsure of what to  do, please refer  to
  190.                the  next section: "OPTIONS".  Please note that based on the
  191.                detected  hardware on  your  system, and  the decisions  you
  192.                make, not all of these options may be available.

  197.                Two user selectable modes of operation:
  198.

  200.                     "Daily Verse" mode
  201.  
  202.                     When in this mode, BIBLEV will use the DOS date on your
  203.                     PC to     determine  the verse  to use,  and then  will
  204.                     display that verse from the BIBLEV.DAY verse file.  The
  205.                     verse will be the same each  time  run that day.  After
  206.                     using  all of the verses  in BIBLEV.DAY, the    program
  207.                     will cycle back to the beginning of the verse file.

  209.                     "Random Verse" mode
  210.  
  211.                     In random mode BIBLEV  will randomly select one of  the
  212.                     verses in  the verse  file.   Since verse  selection is
  213.                     entirely random, and not based on  date, the verse will
  214.                     be different  each  time  run,  even on  the  same  day
  215.
