  12. As promised, here is a list of Anonymous FTP sites that you can visit.
  13.  
  14. Most of the listings are of files that you can retrieve. All files
  15. are listed in the following format:
  16.  
  17.      Address: ftp.sura.net
  18.      Path: /pub/nic/agricultural.list
  19.  
  20. You should have no problem figuring out what to do with the "Address"
  21. part.
  22.  
  23. Figuring out the "Path" part isn't difficult, but there is a
  24. trick that you need to remember: everything after the last / is the
  25. file name. DO NOT USE THE FILE NAME IN YOUR CD OR CHDIR COMMANDS!
  26.  
  27. For example, if the path entry is
  28.  
  29.      Path: /pub/nic/agricultural.list
  30.  
  31. your "cd" or "chdir" command should be
  32.  
  33.      cd /pub/nic
  34.  
  35. and your "get" command should be
  36.  
  37.      get agricultural.list
  38.  
  39. Some listings do not list file names. These listings have a * after
  40. the last /. This means that you are going to have to use the "dir"
  41. command to look around that particular directory for the file(s)
  42. that you want to get.
  43.  
  44. Some other hints:
  45.  
  46.      - The README file is your friend. Get it every time you see it!
  47.  
  48.      - LOOK AROUND! Just because I have told you where a file is,
  49.        that does not mean that that file is the only file that
  50.        you can get. Use the "DIR" command often :)
  51.  
  52.      - Just because the path address may be /pub/nic/articles,
  53.        that does NOT mean that you have to go straight to that
  54.        directory. You are more than welcome to take the "scenic
  55.        route" to the file (example: type "cd pub", then type
  56.        "dir" to look around the pub directory. When you are done
  57.        in the "pub" directory, type "cd nic", and then type "dir"
  58.        to look around the "nic" directory ...)
  59.  
  60.      - Sites appear and disappear every second, and files are shifted
  61.        around just as frequently. If you get into a site and can not
  62.        find the file that you are looking for, look in the README
  63.        file for a directory of files. If that fails, get out of
  64.        the site and try an Archie search for the file (using the
  65.        file's name as the searchterm).
  66.  
  67.      - Remember, with most FTP clients *CASE COUNTS*. Typing
  68.        get AGRICULTURAL.LIST won't work if the file is named
  69.        agricultural.list
  70.  
  71.      - If you are using FTPmail, you can use the "dir" command
  72.        just as easily as everyone else. Just type "dir" on the
  73.        line following your "chdir" command.
  74.
