- Sorry for the delay in responding to your note; I've just returned from
- 2+ weeks of vacation. I'm afraid my brain isn't functioning that well
- right now and I can't recall the article. Did you send it to me via
- email or in hard copy form? I'm not at all certain that I've received
- it (I think I would remember it). There certainly does seem to be a
- good deal of demand for measures of this type, so I want to follow up
- on this and see about possibilities for dealing with it in future
- versions. Thanks for your note and please help me to recall the
- specifics.

- TCPMASTER - a public domain Window Socket DLL
-
- Welcome to the TCPMaster mailing list if you have just joined us. This
- message will briefly explain the status and goals of the project.
-
- Who is Who?
- Brad Wilson is no longer involved with this project because he now is
- employed by FTP Inc. and working on TCPMaster would be a conflict of
- interest. Brad wrote the major part of the code, and he has setup the
- framework of the C++ implementation. I (Hans van Oostrom) am now in charge
- of the code, and the TCPMaster ftp archive, which can be found on
- cps201.cps.cmich.edu in the pub\tcpmstr directory. You can reach me via
- email at oostrom@cps201.cps.cmich.edu.
-
- What is TCPMaster?
- TCPMaster is a public domain implementation of a Windows Socket DLL. When
- it is released it will include complete C++ source code. There will be no
- restrictions on commercial use, but the source code will have to go with
- the DLL.
- The TCPMaster winsock communicates with the network drivers via a WinPacket
- DLL. The specification of the WinPacket DLL was made by Brad Wilson, and
- can be downloaded from cps201. The current version is version 1.1.
- +-----+ +-----+ +-----+
- |Task1| |Task2| |TaskN|
- +-----+---+-----+---+-----+
- | TCPMaster winsock.dll |
- +-----+---+-----+---+-----+
- |Drv1 | |Drv2 | |DrvM |
- +-----+ +-----+ +-----+
- By offering different WinPacket drivers, the types of interfaces can be
- easily expanded, and existing drivers can be improved or replace without
- changing the TCP/IP part (winsock.dll).
- Currently a driver for the packet driver (ethernet type 1 only) is available.
- It can also be found on cps201 (wpdevpkt). PPP and SLIP versions are in the
- making. A tester program to load and test the drivers can be used to test a
- driver (wptestr).
- A control panel interface is built into the winsock.dll for easy setup.
-
- What is the current state of things?
- At this moment the DLL can be loaded, the control panel interface works, the
- ip part is done, the udp part is done, as are many other functions.
- What currently needs work is:
-
- TCP debugging, OOB, retransmission, a better buffering
- scheme.
- Domain Domain name lookup with the domain server.
- WSAGetXbyY needs implementation.
- DLL loading Because of problems creating windows inside a DLL,
- a helper exe must be made that loads the drivers
- and creates the windows
-
- How do I become a beta tester?
- To become a beta tester you need to fill out the form BetaTesterApplication
- located in the tcpmstr directory on cps201, and mail it to
- oostrom@cps201.cps.cmich.edu. If you have already sent one to Brad several
- months ago, you are still on the Beta list.
-
- When will it be available?
- I work on this project in my own free time, so progress is not always as
- quick as I want it to be. I estimate a first crude release for testing
- in 2-3 months.
-
- Thank you for your interest in TCPMaster. Feel free to drop me a line
- if you have questions or comments.

- Just a quick (but important) question. The deadline for submissions to the
- SIOP conference in which we wanted to submit a symposium essentially honoring
- DNJ is rapidly approaching -- must be received in Washington by Sept. 23. Woul
- d you be willing and able to present something that would fit in with the theme
- of "Use of The Construct Heuristic within the Field of I/O Psychology"?
- Was you air traffic controller work suitable for this? At any rate, please let
- me know as soon as possible we can get going. If you are interested in
- presenting, the next thing we need is a 500-word summary of your presentation.
- Your presentation does not have to be on the air traffic controller stuff --
- any thing that would fit reasonably within the theme (old or new stuff) would
- probably be OK.
-
- Please respons ASAP. Thanks ...R.G.
-
- P.S.: Classes start here next week (Ugggg)
