  1.  NOTE: Several features have been added, we try our best to update this file,
  2. but we are not always successful.  If in doubt, ask.

  8. Announcing the release of SlipStream Jet. This Windows program will 
  9. let you download your selected USENET newsgroups and EMail from your internet
  10. provider (SLIP/PPP) or TCP/IP Winsock 1.1 compliant network and convert
  11. them to QWK format for use with your favorite offline reader. It will
  12. read your reply packets and upload them to your NNTP server. It will
  13. create 100% correct USENET and mail headers. This program requires Windows
  14. 3.1 or higher, a TCP/IP connection, and a Winsock 1.1 compliant stack installed.

  16. Please be sure to read the license.txt for important legal, license and
  17. warranty information. The current unregistered version will allow up to 
  18. 5 newsgroups to be selected.
  19.  
  20. SlipStream requires VBRUN300.DLL and may not run in Windows 
  21. Standard mode. VBRUN300.DLL can be found at most FTP sites 
  22. and most BBS'. Please make sure your VBRUN300.DLL is dated 5-12-93 or
  23. later, and not 4-28-93.

  26. INSTALLATION
  27.  
  28. 1. Unzip the file you downloaded into a temporary directory (ie:
  29.    c:\unzip). SETUP.EXE will NOT run if run from the same 
  30.    directory as specified in the TEMP environment variable.
  31.     If you have PC Tools, please shut it down during installation!
  32.  
  33. 2. Select the "Run" command from Windows File Manager, type in
  34.    [dir]\setup.exe and click on "OK".
  35.  
  36. 3. Answer installation questions according to your preferences.

  38. 4. Delete unzipped files from your temporary directory.

  41. SETUP
  42.  
  43. 1. Start Slipstream from the Slipstream Program Group the 
  44.    installation created.
  45.  
  46. 2. Click on the button showing a Wrench icon.
  47.  
  48. 3. Enter your NNTP server hostname (or IP address), your email address
  49.    and organization.
  50.  
  51. 4. Click on path and enter the names of your mail packet directory
  52.    (where your QWK reader looks for QWK packets), your reply directory
  53.    (where you upload from) and the directory and filename of your QWK
  54.    reader.

  56. 5. Click on the button showing the File Cabinet icon.
  57.  
  58. 6. Using the Add button enter the names of the newsgroups you wish to
  59.    subscribe to. Slipstream defaults to updating the high message number
  60.    for each new group. If you know the number of the last message you
  61.    marked as read, you can uncheck "Reset High" and enter a new number
  62.    under "High Pointer".

  64. 7. Click on "OK" when you are done entering newsgroups (remember the 
  65.    unregistered version only allows 5).

  67. 8. Your setup is now complete.

  70. RUNNING SLIPSTREAM JET
  71.  
  72. 1. Establish your TCP/IP connection to your Internet provider.
  73.  
  74. 2. Double click the program icon in the SlipStream program group.
  75.  
  76. 3. Click on the button showing a Robot icon. You will be presented with a
  77.    dialog box. Check whether to just download articles or also
  78.    post Replies (SlipStream will automatically sense a reply packet and
  79.    mark "Post Messages" as checked). When you are finished making your
  80.    selections, click on "OK". Slipstream will take it from here.

  82. 4. When the it is done zipping the QWK packet has been
  83.    created and is ready to be read. You can either click on the button
  84.    with the Photo and Envelope icon to start your QWK reader or quit
  85.    SlipStream (by clicking on the button with the Arrow icon) and start
  86.    your QWK reader by your normal method.

  88. NOTES: Some Windows QWK readers make changes to the header info when
  89. you edit an existing reply message. This will cause a "Bad Article
  90. Number" on your NNTP server and the message will *not* be successfully
  91. uploaded. If you must edit a message you've already created, the best
  92. work around for this is to copy the text of the message to the
  93. clipboard and then paste it into a new message. You will have to
  94. manually enter the subject and newsgroup. This will allow you to
  95. download subject headers and select which specific articles to download.
  96. A help file is still in development and will be included soon.

  98. Remember, this is shareware. It is NOT free. PLEASE register if you
  99. continue use. Besides, you'll be the envy of your "Net" block as they
  100. say, "Gee, this person actually registers stuff!" ; )  You will also be
  101. able to sleep at night knowing that you are not stealing the food out of
  102. our kids mouths, and you will be provided with full program technical
  103. support.
