  10. Skip this section if you're new to the Internet Phone.

  12. 1. The Internet Phone now uses its own network of servers, instead of
  13.    the public IRC network.
  14.  
  15. 2. The list of users now can specify a port number. All Internet Phone
  16.    Servers now support both the standard IRC server (6667) and a new
  17.    port, 6670

  19. 2. Fixed bug in volume, which sometimes had no affect while talking.

  21. 3. New registration mechanism (does not affect already-registered users)
  22.  
  23. 4. The list of Topics and list of Users are less "jumpy" when users join

  40.    callee in listen mode for several seconds. Now the callee will go to idle

  44.     the IPHONE.INI in order to work:

  62. In order to use Internet Phone, you need...

  65. 1. Windows 3.1 or higher.
  66.  
  67. 2. 8MB of RAM recommended.
  68.  
  69. 3. 486SX 25Mhz or faster recommended.
  70.  
  71. 4. Windows compatible audio board, with speaker and microphone.
  72.  
  73. 5. TCP/IP software with WINSOCK 1.1 support.

  75. 6. A SLIP/PPP, or direct Internet connection (14,400 baud minimum).

  79. Installing the Internet Phone
  80. -----------------------------

  82. 1. Make sure that your microphone and speaker work properly,
  83.    by recording yourself using the Microsoft's Sound Recorder.
  84.    See "Preparing Your Audio Device" section, below.

  86. 2. Create a directory on your hard-disk
  87.     e.g.: MD C:\IPHONE
  88.  
  89. 3. From that directory, execute the self-extracting archive
  90.     C:\IPHONE> IPHONE08.EXE
  91.  
  92. 4. Choose File/Run and execute C:\IPHONE\ADDICONS
  93.    A new program-manager group file will be created, with icons for The
  94.    Internet Phone and Help file
  95.  
  96. 5. Double-click the Internet Phone icon.
  97.  
  98. 6. The first time you run the Internet Phone Software, a Quick Tour will
  99.    be suggested to you.

  101. 7. Start talking with the rest of the world!

  105. Removing the Internet Phone
  106. ---------------------------

  108. If you installed the Internet Phone, and wishes to remove it, or even
  109. just to re-locate it in another directory, then you should do the
  110. following:
  111.  
  112. 1. Load the file WIN.INI into a text edit (e.g. NOTEPAD)
  113.  
  114. 2. Locate the "[Sounds]" section
  115.  
  116. 3. Inside that section, remove all "Internet Phone" sounds.
  117.  
  118. 4. If you then run the Internet Phone again, it will re-install its
  119.    sound files from its new current directory.
  120.  
  121. 5. If relocate the Internet Phone without removing these entries, you'll
  122.    notice that the indication sounds (busy, ringing, etc) are gone.

  126. About The Internet Phone Network
  127. --------------------------------

  129. The Internet Phone uses servers network to show the currently on-line
  130. users. The actual talk is done directly between the PC's running the
  131. Internet Phone, and not via the servers.
  132.  
  133. The Internet Phone network is now growing daily. To get the latest list
  134. of servers, get the file IRCSRVRS.INI from the FTP site
  135. ftp.vocaltec.com /pub
  136. or from our WEB site http://www.vocaltec.com/net.html

  140. Selecting a Server
  141. ------------------
  142.  
  143. In order to use the Internet Phone, you must be connected to an Internet
  144. Phone Server, which uses the IRC protocol.
  145.  
  146. When you first run the Internet Phone, the list of Internet Phone Servers.
  147. You can select different server anytime you like.
  148.  
  149. It is better to select the one nearest to you. However, there isn't any
  150. difference which server you connect to: All servers hold an updated list
  151. of all Internet Phone users.

  153. Once you're connected to the network, you can call any other Internet
  154. Phone user that is connected to the Internet Phone network. There is no
  155. need for both of you to use the same IRC server.
  156.  
  157. Please note that  by  "nearest"  we  mean  over  the  net,  but  usually
  158. geographically close places have a better network connection.
  159.  
  160. It is possible to connect to an IRC server outside of the Internet Phone
  161. network. In this case, will be able to talk only with Internet Phone
  162. users using the same network.

  171. 1. Check the TroubleShooting from the Help menu in the Internet Phone.
  172.    It contains a list of problems and solutions.

  175.    to contact VocalTec.
